I once exposed my classmate for cheating in exam.
It was the final year paper for our engineering course and we were in the giant hall for final exams.
I had done all the questions I knew. I then sat there cracking my head on the questions I am uncertain of.... so I looked around while I crack my head.
I casually looked at my classmate, who sits at a distance at my 11 o'clock position, took out his handkechief and clean his face. We seldom talk to each other in class. I tot he must be sweating about the paper.
Thats was when I saw it.
I saw him took out a piece of folded paper from his hanky and open it. It was A4 size with writings.
He then removes the stapler of the question paper, mix the piece of paper he had into the question paper and staple back the question paper.
So when he pretend to look at the question paper, he is looking at the piece paper he brought in. Then he started writing a lot.
My classmate looked around quickly to ensure no one saw him. He saw me looking at his direction, and I looked away.
I looked around and saw everyone trying their best to answer the paper. I felt this classmate is wrong to cheat to this extend. Imagine if he scores distinction, when he cheated.
I raised my hand and one of my teachers responded to me. I raised my question paper and my teacher came close to me, thinking I had a question. I then said "I suspect my classmate is cheating...". I told my teacher of my observation.
I told my teacher will go straight to my classmate. But what he did next protected me as a whistle blower.
He went around the hall, got another teacher and then they confronted my classmate. They caught him red-handed. I forgot if they lead him away immediately or after the paper was over.
After the paper ended, my trainer came running out and told my classmate & I the news. Little did they know I was the one who exposed him.
I went back and told my brother what I did. My brother scolded me, asking me how could I have done such a thing to my classmate! I was shocked my brother said that I was wrong. I was very stressed out by the paper and being blamed by my brother.
The next day was the last paper and I went back. Surprisingly the classmate was back to exam table. He stared angrily at me hard. I could see that he suspected that it was me and was going to take revenge. At the end of the paper, I saw that my teacher picked up his answer sheet personally.
And that was the last day of my tertiary study.
4 days later, I was enlisted for NS. NS training made me forget this incident quite quickly. To date, I never saw that classmate, who cheated, again.
Do you guys think I had done right or wrong to expose this classmate? -
you should have gone further and make noise about why he was not expelled,etc

Have to spare a thought for those ppl who really studied hard for the test mah. -

anyway i was thinking since the system is based on moderation/bell curve. therefore by eliminating a cheat you have just helped every one in the cohort!!!!!!!! -
I hate Snitches.. !
I have cheated on all my Chinese spelling and dictation sessions and more than afew tests.
I would probably get someone to bash up the snitch.

Don't worry too much. You did the right thing. By exposing him, you are doing a favour to everyone who studied hard for the exam. I know it's difficult sometimes to choose between being morally right or to just ignore something and remain 'popular'. Plus, you might be doing him a favour as well because if he gets away from cheating in an exam, god knows what else he will attempt.

in one of my econs class a term ago, the prof caught two chaps cheating on one of the mid-terms, the chaps somehow got hold of restricted answer booklets which we write all our exams and tests on, filled with formulas and answers ... and were hiding it by putting it on their laps ......
the prof stared hard at me too ... cos I was of the same skin colour as the guilty chaps .... and I was sitting right beside both of them ......
these chaps really disgraced themselves ... ... I'm not sure what the penalty would be like for tertiary institutions in Singapore, cos I have never encountered any cheating cases during my poly days ... but overseas institutions take such things very very seriously .... even copying assignments (or lending your assignments for others to copy) is a big no-no, and you can be referred to a faculty panel to be disciplined ... which I think is the right attitude too ... needless to say, with a mark like that, their academic career is over ..... -
Ok cheating is obivously wrong. U did the right thing.
I think the lines of cheating have already been blurred. If u know the qns b4 the test, is that cheating? But look whats happen around topical tests. At least these are still considered minor.
But cheating in a major exam, what's the point ? -
You done the RIGHT thing. Your brother scolded you for telling he cheated is probably because he cheated once and hates people who see it and tell the teacher. No offence though! Just a theory.

if i see cheating i sure keep quiet or even help...same as if i see $50 note on the floor i sure take one
