Noisy Neighbor Above my Apartment

Hi, I am annoyed of my neighbor staying above my apartment. I want to study at night because in the morning and afternoon, there are noisy construction and renovation. I would not study very well in this type of envoronment, so I would prefer to study at night. At night, I could not study properly again because their kid is very noisy. They are Indian family. The kid likes to shout, run around making lots of noise and even worst, riding his bike which makes a very unpleasant screeching noise often.
This started last year around October when they moved in. I want to go up to their apartment and talk to the kid's parent nicely that their kid is disturbing me, but my Mum doesn't allow me to talk to them. She said let it be. I have no idea why she said that, don't she find their kid annoying?
The kid continue to make lots of noise until there was one time, I found a way to shut him up. Whenever that little kid makes lots of noise, I would use a bottle and knocked my ceiling. At first, it works. The kid's mother would scold him and he became quiet, but sometimes the kid would still make some of noise.
However in this month recently, the kid continue to make a lot of noise again. I use my bottle to knock at my ceiling and this time, it doesn't work. The kid continue to make the noise even louder.
My mum knows that I use a bottle to knock at their ceiling and she finds me annoying than the above neighbor. I told her that it works but this time it doesn't works. Now I do not know what to do, the kid is very noisy. I do not dare to make a complaint to Town Council or Housing Board because the Indian family might say that I use something to knock at their floor causing disturbance and I will get into trouble.
I am not sure what to do, can anyone advice me what to do? -

Mugen , don't believe in the "Great response to HDB's good neighbours project". It does not help to solve noise prob you have. Khaw is only putting up drama just to support lee hsien loong's kampong spirit crap.. if hdb ever care my noise prob from above neighbours would have been solved. It is just propaganda crap.
You can try the ear plug in yellow box. Ear plug is yellow. It is below $2. Can help 7n normal high volume noise.

I threw away box. It is a small box with pic of ear. Unity pharmacy. I not sure if it is available at guardian.

Go explain the problem.Indian kids are more noisy than others,AFAIHS.Though legally you may not be able to do something for noise in day.

hi mugen,
same thing happened to me in spore.the neighbours bang ceiling like hell ...even ear plugs and heavy duty industrial ear muffs no use.noise simply went thru because it simply too near u for those ear plugs n industrial noise suppresors to work.
so i called the police...no use
so i called HDB ......no use
then i left the country forever.got use.

The ear plugs don't work because they cannot block these frequencies. Use a white noise,noisy fan or other calm music(many such on youtube). I have to say most HDB buildings have good noise insulations compared to France and Netherlands.

i never come across france and europe gort peeple bang on ceiling or floor until the ear plugs and heavy duty industrial ear mufflers dont work.i think should be criminal offence because most countries are very strict on basic courtesy such as this.....even withot evidence. -

USA-call police,finish.

I saw two types of ear plug, one is Bilsom Foam Earplug another one is the one that looks like Blue Tack which can be moulded like plasticine, which one would be a better choice?

Seems like Bilsom Foam Earplugdoesn't really work well, I could still be able to hear that little brat's annoying sound. I have bought Surgipack Antinois Ear Plugs,
it cost 9.50 which is very expensive. When I used it, it could block most of the sound but I could still hear some of the sound, it is better than before. If this doesn't work, the only option I left is to talk to them or report to Town Council

Simply said white noise is a noise which doesn"t affect you and can block other noises. Eg: the sound of a fan,you don't her it after a while and this prevents smaller sounds from becoming obvious.
To give it a try go to youtube and look for relaxing music for study,calmness or rain falling etc.Get a good speaker with bass depth(since sound through wall is your problem) such as Logitech Z623,Z2300 etc. The music volume is pleasant and constant this could help your issues.Give it a try but remember a good subwoofer in your case is necessary.

Maybe its a good idea to report to the police. Indian family can be damn annoying.
