Ok, I am 17 this year. I've been wanting to move out from my parent's house since sec school due to many family problems.
My father always mentally abuse my mum and I by saying nasty things and complaining about everything. My mum has pretty high standards on me as well. And I just couldn't believe that they wanted me to go overseas to study(n it was against my own will).
So I guess it's time I have my own say.
Can someone please kindly tell me what is the legal age to move out of my parent's house? I don't want them to like report to the police and then in the end, the police haul me back to my parent's place lorh...
The Family Court deals with various family-related matters. One aspect it covers is maintenance orders. For example, if a husband neglects to maintain his wife, she can apply to the Family Court for an order that her husband makes monthly contributions to maintain her.
An applicant can also apply to the Family Court for a Personal Protection Order for herself or himself, as well as for a child if violence or threats of violence have been used by the abuser. In certain circumstances, the Family Court can grant a Domestic Exclusion Order to prevent the abuser from entering the matrimonial home.
The Family Court also deals with divorce proceedings, which includes matters such as division of matrimonial property, custody of children, as well as maintenance of the wife and/or children. In addition, it also deals with adoptions.

Your parents want to send you overseas to study... hello.. that means you will have your freedom there, away from your "family problems".
Why you want to run away on your own and become an outcast ?
If I am you I'd take the oversea study offer and get out of there ASAP.
Your run away.. your parents file police report.. You go oversea to study they still have to pay you allowance to stay there !
Think about it .
Please try to understand what a PPO entails before anyone here is telling her about it.
One do not need to engage a lawyer if it is a PPO.
One will be advised and counselled prior to it.
A police report is not necessary.
Was there any violence ?
Please do not advise PPO if you do not understand it.
It is easy to apply. That is not the end of the story. There is still alot of follow ups that one will need to comply with. It will be very stressful and taxing.
If the respondent deny what was said in the PPO, it will be contested and there will be more headaches and stress.
When one thinks that it's all over after the end of hearing, it is not.
One would still need to attend scheduled counselling from the court.
It will never end.
Please do not encourage such, if you do not understand what it entails.
Finally, one needs to be 21 and above to be able to "leave the family home". It is not 18 or 19 or 20.
Yes, if you decide so, your parents can report to the police and you must return home.
You should approach the Family Service Centre within your community for help and not a PPO for help.
Do not see yourself as an odd one . There are many more others and you are not alone.
No matter what, always believe that your parents are trying their best to provide for you. It may not be the same as what you envisage. Never envy others.
Regards

Hi, just wondering. Is that Singapore law. I understand that if a girl who is under 18, eventhough it is a consented sex, the parents can make a police report as a rape case.
Actually, age of consent is 16.
18 applies to paid sex.
