Hello SGForums!! I'm Okei and I'm new here , hope to gain more knowledge and meet new friends here~
First of all, sorry if the post is abit long to read,but...
So , the O'Level is finally over! Yay! Promnite is very nice, all my classmates had fun,but I don't know if I will be able to smile and laugh with them like this again when I see my O level results next year.
Admit it , most of the students(including me) have a rough idea or estimation of how well you do for the paper after the exam. No matter how positive I think , my points will be around 26-28.
I've successfully passed the DPA(Direct Poly Admission) for my desired course which is Game Design but the minimum requirement is 26 and I'm scared I can't get it.(Most probably can't already, I screwed my Chemistry and Amath =w= )
So if I get 27 and above , I'll go to Higher Nitec in ITE instead. I'll choose Game Design & Development in ITE too so I can go to Poly after that to further my education.
I'm basically okay with ITE,I will take it as learning extra knowledge for two years^^
But I'm afraid my classmates , friends & family members will look down on me because of that and I feel demoralised.
Most of my classmates aims to go JC and they are like : " HAHAHA you're not kidding me aren't you? ITE means It's The End and you will have a hard time in future, and you will be older than your other classmates."
And when I ask my relatives for opinions , they do not support ITE too because they think its bad, so most people I know thinks ITE is bad. Why is that so?:/
I think they offer quite good education but school name just ruined by people whom do not want to study. What do you guys think?:3
You should have dropped A-maths. If you know you can't cope, learn to let go. Letting go is not the same as giving up.
You sound like a person without a mind of your own to ask such question.
nobardie can look down on u unless u look down on urself first
Aiyo...why so negative in the first place. ITE is not the end. Is To Extraordinary
You go there to look good or to learn?
The teachers there r not gangsta, its the students there like to act gangsta because they think they look cool.. but they r not. University also got gangstas but at least they are intelligent gangstas.
Now u know why the ITE gangstas get no respect from the public.

Try to connect the dots.
We're an elitist society - fact. It'll be difficult to find people who will accept the good side of being an ITE student, since most of them have a rigid mindset on what's bad about ITE, especially the older generations. So don't mind it too much if you get negative comments about your school. Whether or not you do well in life depends on you (: people who have access to higher education might not even be as happy as they are 'supposed to be'
DEFINITELY NOT.
I have colleagues who are from ITE, they can interact well with customers and like to voice out and offer alternatives to solutions, they look at problems from another angle which is different from the one track mind of other students...
Last but not least, DO NOT LOOK DOWN on yourself!
if u wanna feel better, go google for those success stories of ppl who are dropouts or did not go university
It is only in your mind. You are thinking that people will hurt you because of where you seek your education. You have not enter, yet you think people will look down on you? It is because you, your mind looks down on the people in ITE.
You are your biggest enemy.
frankly, only people who are insecure with themselves would look down on anyone else...
why should they look down on anyone?
that being said, go do the best you can and frankly, as long as you can earn an honest living, no one should look down on you..
besides, those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter
sometimes it may be the way some of thsoe students behavr, some even can be clowns in uniform.
In my view, I still think there are pple in this society have the 'look down' glare towards ITE students. Mainly because, that is the only visible path for those who did not flair well their studies(Pls correct me if I'm wrong) at that time.
But it has changed over the years towards the acceptance of ITE graduate, because many ITE graduates have been praised by many employers of their diligent work, honest and hardworking individual. Getting into polytechnic from ITE wasnt as tough as it use to be, I guess.
Which parents or relative don't want their children to get into good school? Who doesn't wants to tell others that their son or daughter came from prestigious school?
Its all comes down to family, friends and relative pressure. Most importantly, you got to think clearly what you want to achieve. Is working in game design related industry what you want, please look into long term perspective.
All in all, family, friends will give you their advice and will be disappoint if you never follow their advice, but they should show their supportive side in whichever decision you have made.
Take their 'lauging matter' into your motivation and strength to prove them wrong.

My uncle, who graduated from Nanyang University of the past(before LKY shut it down and turned it into something else), told me that last time people looked down on Nanyang U graduates, and the Chinese educated, and thought those who graduated from UK were the best...It is only after they entered society, what they did, how successful they were in their own field, how they were able to speak better business english, how happy they are in their own family lives, .....nobody need to know where they graduated from, but when they knew he was from nantah...huhhh...nantah graduate can be so successful...honor to your school or institute or university, and your parents.
scholar from a very prestigious JC, using money from the ministry of education, studied in UK, ended got caught for downloading child pornography....hmmmm...you from ITE should be better than that, if not, don't blame people for looking down on you.

yah...those who look down on people are low in many different ways, it is the weight of the money that prevent them from flying high.

So, you can work hard, and find a business to be a millionaire, then you can look down them.
you never know how high is high if you keep looking down.
