How can you tell if a guy has any interest in you?

This is probably a cliche question, but how can you tell if a guy likes you? I like this guy, but I'm not sure if he likes me :/

Tell him you enjoys his company and would like to spend more time with him.
In other words, be frank.
Go slow. You yourself may be deceived by puppy love.
After some time together, knowing each others up and down, then you can qualify whether you still like this guy.
Dont play mind games, it turns guys off. If in return he plays games with you, everybody gets hurt.

That's a good idea, but the thing is I meay never see him again, we're working colleagues, but our work ended a little while ago .___. -

I asked him out on a date though, he didn't end up agreeing because he had to prepare for an overseas school trip. But before he even agreed or rejected, he asked me "Is this a date?" Why would anyone ask a question like that?
