Hi people. officer career in the SAF only until max of 45 yrs old rite. will the next job u take up after the transition programme offer the same pay or drop significantly?
drop significantly. unless you are colonel or BG
LTC oso will drop significantly? so if COL or BG then dont drop at all?
The pay of your second career is what you can make of it-- the notion that the Army owes you a second job is ridiculous. If you constantly keep yourself relevant and marketable, I have no doubt that you should be able to find a higher paying job outside of the Army.

yup, there is a difference for farmer officer and scholar officer... u noe...
farmer officer contract finish go outside find job urself, while
scholar officer is safe to transit to non-uniformed public Civil Service.
but after being stucked in the armed forces for 20 over yrs, n therefore having no relevant prior working experience, don u tink companies out there wun even consider hiring u? even if they do, u'll have a hard life adapting to eveyting wun u?
oh ppl btw can we have another job, eg. starting a new cafe if you're working as an officer in the SAF? or do u need some approval from the top?
Clearly it will not be easy to start afresh after 20 years in SAF. Another issue is that when you are around 40 years old, it will be very tough to start as an new employee with no relevant job experience. Unless of course if the experience in the SAF is also relevant to the job you seek eg technical vocations.
One must also be realistic and accept that you will most likely start off on new career with lower income. It is a matter of managing your expectations. But, given time, hard work and perserverance, you shud be ok.
Best of luck.
can apply to tcs with your wayang skill after retire
personally i've a strong interest in working in the armed forces but with my A-lvl results, the most i could get is a LSA . and this probably means dat i will not go really far in my career and that's totally nt what i seek for.
having known that yr future is sealed and nt gona go far before u take up a job is nt wad i wan.
such a dilemma. few more months to decide my future
need some suggestions people.
thx =)
Officer in SAF:-
1. If you are not taken a CO appointment by age of 35, meaning you are no future in SAF even you have gone thru the SCSC(some can some can't) course.
2. Unless you are in the special field, SAF's Officer leave SAF by age 40 as per contact
3. Normal scholar have to achieve rank of COL else bye bye at age 45.(some more must be in sensitive appointment e.g. BG CO..)
4. Super scholar (e.g. president award, oversea scholar award) your path are laid unless you screw it up as well as who is your “mountain" behind.
If the above "rules" you do not care about it than it is a very well pay job & lot of out door excitement (depend on your vocation).
(SAF follow Israeli way, professional soldiers must achieve their appointment at given duration or age, and else you are not match in the organization)
If not consider about how marketable after ROD in the job market you are? So it depend on you own decision.
It going to be even worst off for officer in combat unit. Would you like to put these lines into your resume. "Dear sir, i can fire a motar" or "Dear sir, i am a small arms instructor". Ya right, will only look for them if i'm hiring a team to rob a bank.
seachfun are u saying that as long as u obtain an overseas scholarship offered by the SAF other than the SAFOS scholarship, u have a high chance of getting your path laid ?
WUn ppl who decide to sign on as officers in the armed forces at a later time because of various reasons like after studying in poly ( 3 yrs ) lose out from those who studied in JC ( 2 yrs )??
even if it's jus 1 year, it makes a great deal of difference in a short 20-year carreer doesn't it?
