Not having heard the speech, I will dare add only the following.
Singapore people(I dont know if the people I have met are PR,citizen, or what not) are hard working. As with every country everything is not perfect. It's good to be proud of one's heritage and not a matter of shame to accept the shortcomings and try to improve it.
So lets do the best.

birth country simply means you were born here, nothing else. What does this country mean to you if you do not contribute to it and you are not proud of it. you just took advantage of the convenience of the land, and when you got feather you just spread your wing and enjoy the freedom.
You pay income tax in the country you stay but try to tell your birth country how to look after the poor and the old. You don't serve NS and stay in a big country to avoid trouble in the little red dot, and you tell us how to run our lives. Obviously being so far away you can't join any community services to help the underpriviledged, but you think your loud voice would do wonder. don't be a hypocrite....
holding to Singapore passport just because you may need to come here when it gets tougher there. Now you PR where you stay because find comfort there, just like the PR in Singapore, and you think you are on moral high ground.
you proud of Singapore?
Me the hypocrite ? LOL !!!
Most my families are living in Singapore, where's yours ? They are mostly in Malaysia I bet.
If there is trouble in little dot.. Will you fight for Singapore or run back to where you came from ?
How silly of you old fool.
Proud ? If I LOWER my standard to your third world level.. I should be EXTREMELY proud of living in Singapore. Little red dot is definitely better than the ghetto you once called home isn't it ?
However, being a traveler, I've seen enough to know our country and our people hav a long way to go before we should start patting our own backs.
Because Ignorance is bliss, go ahead and pretend you're living in paradise. I'm not gonna wake you up from that wet dream of yours.
jojobeach and her enlightening comments.
in before thread gets locked.
Perhaps now I understand why our govt wants to flood SG with so many people from third world countries.
Singaporeans have higher standards, that's why we expect more from our million dollar ministers. We demand better and expect better. We want every penny worth of what we pay our ministers.
These third world " New Singaporeans" came from places with low standards, so they have low standards.
They expect less , so they are easier to please.
Our govt no need work so hard to please people with low standards. Just give them a bit more than they usually get..and notice how happy they are already.
While it makes life easier for our govt, it is also a hinderance to our nation progress from 2nd world to 1st world.
A nation with 2nd world mentality govt will never become first world. We are better than 3rd world but can't seem to get beyond 2nd world.
If we allow these kind of constant self-consolation and low standards , with so many of these "third world New Singaporeans" how can we progress as a nation ?
If we need to improve we dun compare with the lesser but the greater, and that's why Sg is stalling.

My family is in Singapore, all of them, from my father's siblings and related. They are pioneers here. All my properties and investment are in Singapore, so will I fight for Singapore? yes!
I have 1 more ICT to complete and I still am part of the defence force of Singapore, do I have the capability to defend Singapore? Yes!
why are you leaving "most of your families" in this place where you are not proud of, just because you think you need to lower yourself? Never mind, they are well taken care of in Singapore, 8 billions dollars has just been put aside to help them, if they are indeed pioneers of Singapore.
You are some woman, first you talked about proud neh nehs, now you talk about wet dreams. I really can't go any lower in this exchange. I am proud of my Singlish. hahaha...but please continue, there are people who are enlightened by you, and there are people who are taking lessons from the little girl who are not proud of Singapore.
I stop here. Have a good day.

Do I have to paint the Singapore flag on my face to show how proud I am ?
Do I have to shout " Majulah Singapura" every time I see a stranger on the street ?
Good to know you are crazy proud and if the people around you don't exhibit the same level of "pride" ... you deemed them ashamed of SG.That's just plain idiotic.
If you think Singapore is wonderful that's fine. But you really need to stop projecting your level of standard on others who hav higher standard than you.
I have investments in Singapore, my families live in Singapore, just because I don't live there means I not proud ? LOL !! Please lah, good thing most Singaporeans are not as narrow minded as you.

You are absolutely correct.
What is most important is how much our people CARE about the well being of our nation.
Being proud doesn't do jack to improve our standards nor elevate our standings in the global world.
If you don't ask for more, our stingy gov will not give more. They'd rather give their own pocket more.
Stressed.
................ to begin with, is there any ./.... in Singapore? Just look at Mediacorpse ........... O O ................ huh .....................???<<&^ ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Easy. Get rid of all the insecure old farts with overinflated and fragile ego sitting in management. These dinosaurs are stifling the flow of creatiivity.
If you want traditional security, you can't have creativity.
Insecure old farts need to go.

Huat ah.

Can our fellow Singaporeans create something like these below to prove that they are innovation?
I can draw straight lines.
Is that innovative?
