sorry we are not a cheap country, cheap self-produced food. we need to import and it is expensive.
no cheap labour here. we might create an under-class here.
I urged everyone here to open your eyes to children who are born poor and do not have the same opportunities as those whose wealthy parents have extensive and rich connections. Life is terribly unfair. It becomes worse when the government promotes the idea of meritocracy in our educational system.
Possibility is not the same as proability.
sometimes i really think, why sad stories like this exist in a world with "Progress" for the human race.
Times are bad.

no cheap labor in sg? maybe ….food fer thought
Please write in complete sentences, aviod short forms. Your english just made my IQ points dropped.
I am talking about the idea of "no cheap labour here", which meant that cheap labour is unfair for the workers. And also, there are no hawker centres in Australia, so therefore the food is mostly from resturants and there would be more staff like waitress, cleaners, washers and chiefs. Oh, even open-air resturants in SG are more expensive than hawker centre food.

r u so sure no cheap labor in sg? sg ppl dowan to do certain jobs cos of the pay so the govt has to import labour from other countries. do u think this statement is true?
I am sure that there is a DEMAND for cheap labour in Singapore. Who would want to do a job that requires hours under the sun, in dangerous conditions and use of physical labour and be paid $3/hour??
People would rather upgrade their skills and become a security guard, waiter, model or even a chef. Who the hell would want to be a construction woker where conditions are dangerous and hard, and to be pay so low? Since we live in a capitalist society, we just move on to better jobs because WE CAN.
Unfortunately or fortunately for the forign labours here, they change jobs. If they make noise they will get send home. Unlike Singaporeans, who have voting powers in this island.
Make sure no Singaporean is a cheap labour because of your policies. They will not vote for you. Voting for you meant no hope of getting better.
Stupid government. Politics is all about representing interest. If any party have policies that threaten my rice bowl, they are out. I wouldn't be voting for my unemployment or for my low wages. Who would be?

Cud it b that becos the ‘cheap’ jobs affect mostly foreigners therefore u hav no ‘care’ factor? is that humane? to the pt r u implying that singaporeans r not gracious n r basically selfcentred? or is yer nose stuck so high up its blocking yer view of the concrete.
Oh my god. Your english...

We have to work extra hard to get the most out of our lives....life is like you've said, unfair, but if we do nothing to change our fate, who is to be blamed ?

It is dependent on the person's atitude...but having said that, we must make sure the person do not feel disadvantage socially. We need to guarantee social mobility.

I hope to see high probability, not the idea of "possibility" of social mobility in Singapore. one in ten out of students living in one-to-three room flats progress to university, and four in 10 to polytechnic. this shows the proability is very low, because of the fact that "richer parents tend to be able to send their kids away for overseas universities even if their child flunked their o levels."
In fact, this is happening in my class room. A guy from my class doesn't pay sh-t attention during chinese lessons because his parents promised to send him to UK after his O-levels. What about me? I living and breathing in a three-room flat dare not dream of going UK. I repeat what I said, life is terribly unfair. But, we cannot let it seems to look unfair.
Please see political ideology like communism, socialism...etc. These sprung out because social mobility is pretty much dead then.

You are full of ideals....that's a good thing....but please dun be depressed over life in general...I'm an old man already....I know life is never fair to me....you have a long way to go....be good and try to be happy ! Focus on the fruits of life....enjoy every moment even if hit by a string of bad luck....Yeap the bad can attack you in combos....but you must stay strong ! Goodness shall prevail !
