Good link, what is said is absolutely true.
Times are really bad? I think re-education or re-training is important to keep poverty in check...but for some uneducated old people how?
Why don't people realise money does not bring happiness? Many tycoons have shallow relationships based on materialism...great gatsby commoditizing relations highlighted in the novel during ameria rise in capitalism last century
So true. Being poor in a rich country. Actually it depends on our mindset. Just like in the article comparing the mindset of average people vs rich people.
Rich people are able to see money as a tool. They make money work for them instead of them working for the money. If you've read Robert Kiyosaki's book "The 21st Century Business", one of the point that was brought forward was on "Information Age vs Industrial Age".
True enough, the economy started from the Industrial Age so the people before us had the Industrial-age thinking. They work hard to earn money. But now, in the Information Age, information can be spread easily by the word of mouth. Even the media is using such a tactic to get more customers for their products - through extensive advertisement. Who's to say that we can't leverage on this Information-age thinking?
If you have the opportunity to do so, I'd urge you to grab it.
It depends on how you define " poor "... if you have a fully paid HDB 4rm flat with S$450K valuation (but haven't sell yet) is that considered " poor " ? How about paying loan for a S$2M Condo for the next 20 years....is that also " poor " ? Perhaps some SG people are rich in assets but poor in cash......? They are " neither poor nor rich "....?
My take is that Singapore needs a reasonably cheap labour force to attract the rich.
Some people are born rich....that need not say, but for the common typical SG people, we have to work damn hard to save some money...with HDB housing + cars at ridiculously high prices...its hard to save money....unless you don't buy any car and don't buy expensive house then maybe can save some money...

you save money for what? a house is an investment, a car is a necessity for some, a status symbol for some stupid ones...nobody force you to buy.
