This is something that I would not want myself or my children to experience when we grow old. Need to save more money while we are still young.

It is sad to see these old people in Singapore. Though they may have grown up maried sons and daughters with families living in Singapore but they are unable to support their old parents due to the fact that they have their own families to support. Their income is insufficient to give monthly financial support to their own old parents because of high cost of living in Singapore. It is a fact which I feel most young Singaporeans don't feel this until they are old themselves.

You mean like your old parents cpf and hdb flat after their demise. -
so how does the old lady live with only $1.50 per day? how is she able to take the train, or will she have at least two meals a day, or what will happen if she falls ill?
she wasn't born yesterday, so how did she lives to become who she is today?
and what does this jacky tan do to follow up? pay her $10 and think a good deed is done?
does she have children and what do they do?
there are more to what you see, the lady is still collecting cans!!!

poverty can never be eradicated.... its even worse in other countries like the USA :P
and since singapore is a young country we will still need more time.... after all, its not as if everyone is educated
that old granny is one of them for sure - thats why she cant get a proper job and depend on her savings (CPF)

Be careful in using the word 手� - �� to describe Singapore, I recall year ago there a foreign press that use a similar term to mention the life of Singaporean (Hand to Mouth). End up the media was sue and then ban in Singapore. -
