During LKY's time, to become a MP, you cannot have any illicit relationships or have a mistress. They'll track you down before you join the parliament and if they find out if you have one, you 100% cannot be a MP. Now any Tom, Dick, Harry can become a MP and have illicit relationships or a mistress outside.
Originally posted by SBS6305H:6078, he alrd resigned. He also made a public apology. So wad u wan him to say?
Ask him pay back all he had earned. It's the tax we're paying.

All people before election will work very hard inside the parliament.
After he/she won the seat, will do nothing and boss people around.
Next election cfm won't get voted.
Dr Tan Cheng Bock calls on PM Lee to call a by-election at Punggol East
PM Lee must call a by-election at Punggol East
The resignation of Michael Palmer from his post as Speaker of Parliament and MP of Punggol East has left vacant a parliamentary seat.
PM Lee should be more positive when asked whether he will call a by-election instead of to “carefully consider” a by-election. This cast doubts on the peoples’ minds.
This is a single seat constituency and the residents of Punggol East need a representative in Parliament. Proxy representation is no option as the next GE is in 2015.

Priority to ensure Punggol East residents' needs are met: Teo Ser Luck
By Kimberly Spykerman | Posted: 13 December 2012 2204 hrs
He has been tasked with overseeing the single-seat constituency after Speaker of Parliament Michael Palmer's shock resignation on Wednesday.
Mr Teo shared his immediate priorities with Channel NewsAsia.
Even as news of Mr Michael Palmer's resignation starts to sink in, the focus has shifted to ensuring there is a smooth handover of duties.
Mr Teo said his priority is to make sure the needs of residents in Punggol East SMC continue to be met.
He started work immediately on Wednesday evening, meeting with grassroots leaders to reassure them and to find out what are the outstanding issues that need to be dealt with.
"I think their main concern was how could they get continuing support to serve the residents, and whether there will be a representative there for them to turn to, and that we assured them that I'll be the contact point, and the stand-in, and covering MP at the moment," he said.
Mr Teo said his plans include finishing projects that Mr Palmer started and tackling outstanding issues involving residents, for example, pushing for the upgrading of Rivervale Plaza to be completed.
He said the stalling of work on the complex has caused a lot of inconvenience to stallholders and residents, and he will work with Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and the Housing Development Board to expedite this.
Mr Teo added a new community centre, as well as other amenities like linkways were in the pipeline, and he will have to take on those projects as well.
He said he has big shoes to fill, as Mr Palmer was well-loved by residents and those he has worked with. He adds that he knows residents will need time to heal.
Mr Tang Wing Fai, Chairman of Rivervale CC Management Committee, said: "I've been working with Mr Palmer for six years. He is a very community-centric man, known to be humble, down-to-earth, and sincere in looking into the needs of every resident in the constituency, especially the lower-income and needy families."
Mr Teo, who is MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, will also make sure Meet-the-People sessions in Punggol East SMC go on as usual.
And MPs from the neighbouring Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC will chip in to help, if necessary.
Mr Teo will have to juggle the commitments in his own ward as well as the ones he has acquired in the Punggol East SMC. But he said he is confident that he will be able to manage.
"Having been mayor across the district that helps in some way or another to understand what's happening. And that helps in many ways because it cuts across 18 constituencies, and I have a good sense of probably what Punggol East needs," he said.
Mr Teo said: "But on the other hand, time is of the essence and time is limited as well, so I do the very best I can to balance the time I spend between Punggol Central and Punggol East as well as the CDC work - to coordinate it carefully and prioritise it.
"That's why I need the different teams to work with me and I'm quite confident I can do it because I've already met the grassroots leaders and I know quite a few of them. I'm confident that they are capable and they know their area very well and they've given me very good advice as well."
Even so, Mr Teo said he needs to spend more time on the ground to understand the issues thoroughly before he can engage residents effectively.

GE: We'll be back, says SDA's Desmond Lim

SINGAPORE: Secretary-General of the Singapore Democratic Alliance Desmond Lim said the party will make a comeback to contest Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC in the next election.
He said despite the SDA losing, it did better than the last election. The party garnered some 31 per cent of votes in 2006, but won 35 per cent this time round.
All the SDA candidates who contested in the GRC are new to the political scene.
Mr Lim said: "I'm very happy there is an increase in percentage in comparison to the last GE results - there is an increase of over four per cent, so Pasir Ris-Punggol residents, we will come again.
"For new faces, they can score over 30 per cent, it's fantastic, that's good...I think that's good, it's the ground sentiments, people who like to see more opposition and this is a way of expressing their desire and I think that attributed to the increase in percentage."
Harminder Pal Singh who led the SDA team for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC said: "It's a time of painful reflection".
But he said the party will aspire to work harder in the next few years, especially in terms of outreach.
"It reflects that we do have some potential that people on the ground are seeing. Number two, they want to give us a chance to be able to represent. And I think the most important, I think we need to work on ourselves a little more, to be able to push and breakthrough the barrier of 50 per cent."
Mr Harminder Pal said the party intends to carry out an in-depth study to see where it wants to go in the future.
Mr Lim was in a three-cornered fight against the PAP's Michael Palmer and Workers' Party's Lee Li Lian for the single ward of Punggol East. Mr Palmer won with 54.5 per cent of valid votes.
Mr Lim, who won less than five per cent of valid votes, is the only candidate to lose his S$16,000 deposit in this election.
Candidates must gain at least 12.5 per cent of the votes to ensure their deposit is not forfeited.
Mr Lim said he would have fared better, if there was no three-cornered fight.
He said: "My conclusion is people are choosing for branding despite the Workers' Party parachuting in without a proper five-year plan being offered. Moreover, the candidate was new. So I would say my conclusion is that residents are choosing for someone who has a brand and they would like to associate with it. I will continue to work the ground (in Punggol East) but I hope Workers' Party will also continue to work the ground."
Mr Lim said he intends to work on growing the SDA brand and continue to reach out to residents in both Punggol and Pasir Ris.

Should call in for by-elections. Seems like the Punggol East residents not very satisfied with PAP's action. IMO WP will win the seat this time.
