Alot of people are under the illusion that they own their HDB flat. Nonetheless, I don't blame the citizens because PAP will repeat and repeat and repeat how good it is for you to own a HDB flat and that it's your retirement plan where you can rent out the place later when you finish paying everything bla bla bla... I don't blame you for blindly taking in information such as $1k can buy HDB flat, etc because when the media helps the PAP to repeat or promote their agenda, then citizens may blindly just take in all information, without even asking if what they had taken in, is indeed facts.
Here are some facts. You do not own the HDB flat, the government does. At the end of the 99 years lease, you may need to return the flat to them unless you pay again to renew the lease. So in effect, you're actually a tenant. By making you think you're the owner, those people (you know who lah) can protect their asses when Singaporeans can't afford to get a flat.
Here's another fact. Majority of people earning $1k cannot even afford to get married, much less get a HDB flat.
Here's another fact that allows you to consider if PAP is really fair and transparent in their dealings. The opposition Dr Chee Soon Juan was denied travel out of the country despite everything was paid for and there is no credible reasons not to allow his travel, unless of course, and obviously it seems, that there is political and unfairness in the way they grant/deny people from travelling.
When you consider all these smoke bombs the ministers throw to smoke singaporean citizens, it makes you wonder if they are the right people for the job.
If you're a Singaporean citizen, please think, or at least start to think. Don't blindly anyhow take in any fart or crap they want to feed you with. Think, very important, your brain, very important. Don't be a sheep.
We already know all this that you say.
But strangely enough, majority of people still give PAP the mandate to rule as can be seen in last year election results..

I think when you said "We already know all this", you meant the 40%.
The last time I attended Maths school, 40% still a smaller number than 60%, so PAP can continue to do their things. Not all people are wise, many remained deceived by sweet words and carrots, I don't blame them, I understand it's human nature and PAP has done well taking advantage of human nature to win the 60% over.
What I wasn't happy is that Ministers taking millions of tax payers money can relax and once a while come out farting like "$1k can easily buy hdb flat", "you own hdb flat" and funny thing is people take in those farts without thinking!!!
machiam like we don't know like that and need you to tell us...
in SG, u dont relli own anything.
People comprain SG like Communist country.. PAP say .. oii.. don't anyhow say hor.. we got elections leh... see .. is mostly capitalist.. you get to OWN a flat.. you get to own COE..you got freedom to choose ! you say we communist.. I sue you !!
People remark.. SG like monarchy.... PAP say.. oii.. don't anyhow say ok.. we democratic country.. people choose who gets to rule the country ok...My son become prime minister is due to his own merit ok.. not inherited ... you say we monarchy... I SUE U !!
Ministers farted and he believes his fart very fragrant. " it's not THAT bad, conmpared to my third world neighbour's fart" he says to himself..... so he believe if he thinks his fart is fragrant.. therefore majority of singaporean must also think his fart is fragrant... so he continues to fart and fart.. and live in his own fart all day long.....
Don't sue me ok.....I scared.. later I pee on your legs then you know...
The hdb flat belongs to you.
Just like cpf.

They might as well just call the spade a spade.
Rename CPF a TAX and be done with it....
When people get over that 21% tax.. they'll stop grumbling and get about life as usual..
Instead.. all this BS justification and faking rich crap.. just frustrates the hell outa our fellow citizens...Ya can see.. but ya can't touch ....
The land belong to the state, the government of the day administer the day to day affairs.
You own the right of occupation, either permanently and transferable, or for a period and transferable during the period, for a price. The first is commonly known as free hold, the latter leases.
You buy the right to the piece of land. This is always 100% (mis)taken as buying and owning the land.
Talking about the CPF makes me angry also...
They give you 2.5% interests rates on your ordinary account where most of the money stays... then Singapore inflation rate is 5.2% this year, basically what it means for us is that our money is losing its value at 2.7% and there's nothing the citizens can do about it.
Sian ah sian ah... we look like we have more money in the CPF, but in reality it's actually less money because over time, with that same money, you buy less things. 1 coffee last time coffeeshop 50 cents now 130 cents. So even give you $1, which I just double your money, but you still cannot afford a cup of coffee now. That's the difference between the price and the value.
When you are 80 years old, you can look at your hdb flat which you spent 30 years to pay up and feel rich.

Owning a HDB lease is different from owning a freehold lah.
If u own a freehold , u can get a mortgage using your property as collateral.
If u own a leasehold HDB, no banks will loan u anything using ur HDB as collateral.
Understand the difference ?
Hdb should never be so expensive.. It's public housing for goodness sake !
There are people who buy condominums for the first time, when they receive the handbook, their jaws drop. So many rules and regulations, and much more restrictions than the HDB.

Most of the rules concern being a good neighbour and paying the monthly fee. A few hundred dollars which includes gym, pool, car park, security guard.
Be a bad neighbour or don't pay, the condo can restrict your privileges or make you move out.
In HDB, if you suay suay got a bad FT neighbour like the pinoy drummer, complain to HDB and prepare to tan ku ku. They will forward your complaint to the police. Police advise you to start a civil case.
dbss is freehold?

DBSS prices all above half a million at least now.
Damn stressful paying for mortgage loan.
Have to make sure we have a job for 30 years.
And no pay decrease.
No lah, DBSS is 99 years also.
DBSS cost more because it is either 1) in mature estate or 2) in new estate but next to MRT.
BTO will be in the shit locations. One exception is Clementi where BTO and DBSS side by side. I suspect because govt is tearing down the old flats next to MRT, they have to let the residents buy a BTO or they will scream bloody murder.
they are just a bunch of unscrupulous businessmen with the power to monopolise to exploit the netizens
the meaning of "Public Housing" should be redefine in our vocabulary
In order for unscrupulous businessmen to succeed, there must be people willing to be fooled by them.
Hdb, is essentially a front loaded lease of 99 years.
Ever wonder ..What happens when a PR walks away from Singapore, abandoning their mortgage payment n hDb flat ?
Say..the flat is purchased from Hdb, n loan taken fron hdb..at 2.6% internet rate.
