LKY cut the pay of civil servants across the board when Singapore became independent, including his own. Said Singapore had no money. But how soon he raised his own pay?

What could LKY and the PAP have done better in those days?
How long did Nelson Mandela stayed in prison, how long was Aung Sung Suu Kyi under house arrest ? even Deng XP were put down twice but he managed to come back to power, and Sun YS were constantly running from the Qing assassin to prepare for the revolution....these people finally succeeded, because they have something in common, they wanted to bring a new world to their people...there is equality in SA for the black (though the crime rate is still high), there is now light for the people in Myanmar (though there is much to be done), China has opened and there is no looking back (though the wealth distribution is not even) and PRC and ROC is the new world order brought about by Sun YS (though they are still technically at war).
What were the old politicians in Singapore planning to bring to the people? I think they are paying for their own political cause, not much for the cause of the people...politics is never easy, and never clean...胜者为王，败者为寇!!!

is there a politician or anyone at all that can do everything right? to be fair he did a great job bringing us to where we are now. all in all he did more good than bad. -
