Pegging the pay to the median of 1000 top earners which a large part will be from GLCs executives is another way of ensuring that the pay can rise back in no time.
Raise the pay package of these honchos; they are happy and the ministers will also get a raise correspondingly.

That is why minister salary is not dependent on their own performance.
In private sector, people work hard to justify their worth.
The ministers just have to depend on these private sector people working hard for their minister pay increase.

Looking at the ordinary citizens' responses to the salary reduction recomendations, their views are: 1)the formula is still flawed in terms of the benchmarking to top earners again 2)not enough transparency with regards to targets and who decides on performance 3)double counting in bonuses to be collected. 4)GDP can always be pumped up - and GDP does not necesssarily always reflect well being of the ordinary individual citizen or those at the lower end of the food chain- thus growth distribution -does it filter down effectively? 5) the ordinary citizen feels that given that we are a very small nation within the world, it is completely inappropriate that our Ministerial salary scale is still the world highest regardless of the proposed cut and/or formula used. 6) Most are even more disgusted looking at past practices in salary and pension payments paid before and currently,(as reported in the local press) and in their minds they wonder how did the system allow these leaders to over- pay themselves in this manner for over a decade.

Dun have to be mind boggled.
Singapore have not progressed into a First World country by paying out of the world salary to certain group of paper scholars as requested by the Old Man.
What I see is a bunch of croonies who are no where to be found when something happened and blame everything instead themselves.
Best of all, they are still clueless despite all the answers and clues splashed all over the internet.
Their performance is only based on boosting the GDP by importing more FTs and retaining their status quo.
Only a few came forward to do something worthwhile.
The sad reality is that we are still too chicken or dumb to make them do their work as they continue to enjoy their life in their white castle on our expenses.

What is there to discuss further about the Ministerial salary review? They have decided, so be it. We still have the world highest salaries paid to them- and if they think their jobs are more difficult than Obama's or Julia Gillard's- what is there to say? Just spare us the nonsense about their great sacrifices made. It's their personal choice to be in politics. They were not forced to be in politics at gun point!
