Guys you think so. Singaporean is very hardworking. Almost work 12-15 hrs a day. Monday to Saturday sometimes Sunday. Only 11 days public holiday. What more can anyone ask of me.
it seems that you are talking about my resale house.
cannot afford the valuation? no choice lor. Good location +Spacious = Lots of people chase after it.

so who are the people crowding there, PR, a peh down grading, young couple looking for first home, or kaypoh like you? saw anybody sign?
big balcony serves 2 purposes, in the day, hang cloths to dry, even if you have dryer, the smell of the sun is always good. in the night, sit around with a glass of wine and look at the light or the star faraway, if you are on low floor, look at your neighbour opposite.
clothes can hang at service balcony (or kitchen cuz I can't recall they have service balcony) as they have the gadgets installed for this purpose anyway.
to drink wine at night at the balcony... erhmm... good for those who don't need to do housechores lor. The balcony will be covered with dust every day, worse still if the main road is visibly nearby. Good if got maid to do the chores every day unless the individual resident don't mind doing it every day or don't mind the dust. Every table and chair that you put to enjoy the glass of wine is dusty. Everytime sit liao, better go in and clean up, change before heading to bedroom, unless the individual don't mind sleeping with part of the body stained with dust. So to maintain the balcony's furniture, the housewife or the maid will have to wipe them everyday.
Balcony opening can bring a lot of dust to the living room also. Have to mop the whole place (not just the living room) every day, again unless the individual don't mind the dust, don't mind doing it himself or has a hardworking maid. Used to live in a 5rm point block with balcony, then move to a exec apt without balcony and then moved to a 3bedrm condo also without balcony. can straightaway tell the difference in terms of maintenance of the household cleanliness. The 5rm flat, although the smallest in floor area, was the one that took most effort to keep the floor clean.
That's why the moment i see the clementi DBSS design, I know the design only look good niah.. but in actual fact totally not practical. Plus the big balcony eats up much of the limited floor area, resulting the living room being left with very small space and the residents can only put a two-seater sofa and a four-seater dining table (or was it two-seater only).
The small sized apt, I'm afraid, only suitable for young couples or old couples not staying with kids. Any family with three generations is a definitely no-no. How to accommodate the family when you can only have a two-seater sofa in the living? I won't go on talking about the walkway to the bedrooms, the kitchen and the indivdual bedrooms. Too depressing.
No matter how expensive and small the units are, still have some people buying...even those 1 bdrm types condo also selling out fast....
That's because of the shortage of supply which has also resulted in price inflation over the years. So if ppl willing to take the small units, except for the few rare cases who each has special reason, they do it because they have no choice.
I believe many young couples took the clementi DBSS because they want to live near the parents, so they have no choice. It is never the case where they think small = ok. It's more like small -> bo bian, cuz the developers only build small flats from now on. It's either they grab the miserably small units now, or they pay the high COV without enjoying first time applicant benefit.
With the population aging rapidly and the forseeable increasing 3-generation family, I am surprised that the developers have stopped building (or at least upgrading exisiting flats to) jumbo flats.
Precisely, flats will be smaller in future.
Wonder why people don't want kids?
When we compare our city with HK, the only thing we have caught up with them is the small and limited living space. Other things like salary, GDP, not.
The recent clementi DBSS (I am only talking about the 5 rm cuz it's the biggest unit they are selling), it totally reminded me of the apartment that I stayed in HK. I used to think that only HK apartments are designed in such a way that the moment you enter the bedroom, you can touch the bed. Now after seeing the recent showflat, I am confident to say Singapore is "catching up" and will surpass HK very soon.

check first when you compare Singapore to HK. 2011 Singapore GNP hit 260 billion, HK is 243.3 billion. on per capita basis, Singapore is $50,700 while HK is $34,300.
Ask the HK people what they think about the 35000 cap for parents giving birth in HK, ask them about granting PR status to phillipino maids, ask them about the "locust"....
As far as population is concerned, Singapore will never catch up HK, Singapore is 5 million, you know how many people are there in HK? Singaporean can still buy HDB, and you still have the choice of DBSS, ask what choice do the young couples in HK have????
Tell the young HK couples who have just got married, about giving birth, buying apartment...tell us what they tell you.
You still living in HK?

If you stay in a bungalow, you need to walk 10 metres before you reach your bed.

People are going for better quality of life....meaning upgrading....it'll be a norm next time that new flats are small....give it another 5 more years and small will be the norm....
