actually... 50sqm isn't that small.... half the size of a 4rooms flat. or 538sq feet. (nice for a couple or alone)...
Heard the govt is planning even smaller units.....
HK smallest how many sq feet? HDB would be working towards that.
They are modelling after the HK small apartments. Even the population level targets are geared with an eye to HK.
But would you actually pay $800k for a shoebox unit at 388 sq feet?
Sounds like a rigged game. That is why there are class conflicts.

my 4rms HDB in Bishan is approximately 114sq m.... valued at $500k.
to pay $800k ($300k more) to devalue my area size by 3 times....
It won't happen in my life time.....
Singapore's rapid economic growth has attracted much admiration. But can this success be sufficiently explained by canny exploitation of a niche in the global free market?
This book shows that there is a complex relationship between economic strategy, social control and political conflict in Singapore. It does this by looking at the regulatory functions of major state institutions.
Public housing increases state control and forces people into wage labour even while supplying a high standard of accommodation.
Singaporeans are sorted, stratified and fragmented by the education system.
Racism and patriarchal relations, seen in language, population planning and eugenics policies, are integral to education.
Elections and parliament in Singapore are mechanisms for forcing submission, converting submission into consent and confining politics to parliamentary politics.
The legal system functions to criminalise politics and politicise crime.
The findings of all the chapters are drawn together to show how the system of social control has developed in phases in response to the changing nature of political resistance.

Now you know why there are people like Lenin.
Why there are communists. Why there are revolutions.

I've read this book cover to cover. Highly recommended!
Maybe in the near future HDB will come up with smaller units eg. less than 500 sqft 3 rms flats....they already launched studios for the elderly at smaller than that sqft....

I would love to buy a flat of that size .....if it is priced according to its size

It won't be cheap....especially if its not a 99y leasehold flat....maybe in the future, the flats shall be 50y only....and for S$300K @ less than 500 sqft units...
The smaller the flat size the more expensive it becomes.
Times are bad.

Agreed....we must plan for our children and grand children....becos by the time they grow up...the HDB flats would have reach insanely high levels....I predict @ S$500K for a 3 bdrm BTO .... in the coming 20y ~ 50y...
