Many people are complaining the sizes of HDB flats are shrinking. Indeed this is very true. HDB CEO Cheong said that smaller flats do not have to mean a lower quality of living because the living space per person has actually increased over time due to smaller family. Mr TCH said that while flats are getting smaller, the quality of living is not being compromised. Both admit flats are getting smaller and tried to jusify the smaller flats.
If both said were true, by same token do you agree that the living quality of population has fallen as number of FT and FW increases because the size of Singapore is relatively fixed? If ever the size of HDB flats becomes a shoebox, they will still say the living quality has not decreased. Give us a break!
Remember when HDB prices rocketed they still said it is affordable. All the times, trying to justify their action. Now Mr IS admitted that housing and economic growth were mishandled.
If the cost had been kept low we would not end up living in a small flat like now. We can still have the size of flats like those in the 70s by making the block taller and keeping the land cost the sameAverage space for everybody will increase because next time, there will be only 1 person living in a 50 sq m one room flat.
Since it is a one room flat, it has better layout because now, the bedroom, hall, kitchen, toilet is all in one room and within 3 metres from you.
If u got tons of money u wun be complaining on the size la....so go out earn more money...then can stay at one 10,000sq m place la....
Or be like our kids. They're getting ready for it, and not complaining...

In fact, no one complains that their body is so very small to live in :DD
It's okay, smaller HDB flats does not influence standard of living.
While it is true that HDB flats are shrinking in size while the prices are increasing, it is completely wrong to say that standards of living are dropping.
The standards of living are not dropping but increasing due to the smaller HDBs and smaller families.
A way to solve the problem is to increase GST from 7% to 10% to help the people living in small flats.

we called it Studio apartments...
not bad really.... . Lesser (area) house cleaning...
Seems like the authority will be building more ShoeBox apartments (like in Hong Kong)...

What a nice name for a one room flat. I approve.
I find it rather glamourous to live in a studio apartment. It would be nice if all Singaporeans can afford a high end studio apartment.
Most apartments in HK... (newer ones)...
can only accomodate a... bed...

The older Singapore HDB rented 1 room..... We still call that 1 room (not Studio)...

That's all most people need I guess.
hey...i saw this movie where they had a machine where the zentraedi shrunk themselves to micronian size!it would be useful here....but then thing is they would continy=ue nshrinking n shrinkin flats until it looks like a coffin.
The only crap thing I can think of is that if you want to take a bath or have a cup of water or read a book or do your laundry, you will need to move a lot of partitions and walls.

In Hong Kong, the rooms are so tiny....
Been to HK a few times... my brother's rented apartment.. 1+1 cost him S$3,500 a month.... the other room (besides the master bed room) is so tiny... just enough for a single bed and no walking space.... OMG...

Now you know why HDB CEO doesn't care about shrinking HDB flats.
Inside her mind, she is comparing HDB flats with HK style tiny apartments. She is like thinking, OMG, such a big 3 room HDB flat; if in HK can split into two already and sell for more $$$.
But don't worry, this
turn to
the standard of living won't drop at all.
The standard will increase.

That;s why a OLD 4 room flat apartment is = or even bigger than a 5 room flat now....
I'm staying in Bishan, 114 sqm (20yrs flat liao)... even bigger than my friend's 5 rooms in Sengkang....

That means their standard of living and quality of life is better than ours.
Really.

But prices keep going higher and higher for the same flat every month.
So your monthly salary must rise faster than the flat prices.
A
B
If you move from A to B, the standard of living won't drop at all.
It is wrong to say that there will be drop. I think if someone moves from A to B, his or her standard of living will improve.
