SINGAPORE: Retiring ministers must have served at least eight years as a political office holder to qualify for a pension.
In
a written parliamentary reply to opposition MP Pritam Singh, Prime
Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the pension is based not on the total
monthly salary, but only on the pensionable component of the salary.
The
pensionable component has been frozen since 1994, and all salary
increases have been added to the non-pensionable component to contain
pension costs. Thus, the pensionable component has been decreasing as a
proportion of total monthly salary.
Mr Lee said the annual
components of salary, such as the 13th month payment, annual variable
component and performance bonus, are also not pensionable.
He said a minister qualifies for the maximum pension only after having served as an office holder for 18 years.
The maximum annual pension is about 10 per cent of his annual salary prior to retirement.
The pension will be less if he has served for a shorter period.
The
value of the pension a minister may receive upon retirement is fully
taken into account when ministerial salaries are set against the
benchmark.
Mr Lee said a committee has been formed to review the
salaries of political appointment holders, which includes a review of
the pensions for ministers.
The committee expects to complete its
work by year-end, and the government will take into consideration the
committee's recommendations when deciding on the pensions for ministers.

why will retiring ministers be given pension when they are fetching such high salaries?
isnt it true they hardly spend a single cent of their own salaries when in office? the petrol, car and even meals are all provided for isnt it?
pension should be scrapped.
pension? the ministers already damn rich liao. annual salary is 1m at least.
Pension is a way to control these Ex-ministers to Behave!
We the citizens of Singapore Pledge ourselves as one united nation.
. . . . .. . . democratic society.
Pension for MIW, no pension for commoners who pay for the salaries of MIW. I see the democratic society in the Singapore pledge is referring to the MIWs only.
wat did he do for me i must give him pension?

I support your suggestion to scrap the pension for these ministers. Greed! The more money you feed them the more greedy they get and the more dysfunctional they are.
When the government links ministers salaries to the top CEO, they look at the high salary that these CEOs earn. But when the CEO don't perform, or made mistakes, they are fired, this the government didn't follow. No CEO receive pension, this the government also didn't follow.
Even the new civil servants are not given pension, why is pension still applied to ministers???

When they are on the job they make sure they don't introduce any policies , laws or guidelines to lead them out of their jobs. They are in a way much better than the CEOs of any companies for they are making themselves not accoutable to anyone. CEOs are accountable to the Board of Directors.
Those old old batches of civil servants are still entitle to pension after which no more for those join later than these old ones.
To be in politics business is a all win situation in Singapore. Any minister can make mistakes and still allowed to stay on the job to enjoy their super high pay. Huat ah!
Wah liao, imagine if Tin Pei Ling go into another GRC, be Minister of State for 3 years, can qualify for pension liao.

She is thick skin, ignoring her own limits. The one who is called Lee Hsien Loong and the Goh chak tao also exercising bad taste, super poor judgement to get her in.
I don't even consider her a bimbo. She is pleasant looking but not up to par to be called a bimbo. Bimbos are pretty, she is not, she is only very pleasant and innocent looking.
why i got no pension one leh.. but they got......
its a waste of resource to give them pension. they got CPF right. CPF is enough what, not to mention the fat pay check in the bank when they are millionaire ministers.
They can donate their surplus to the religious and non religious charitable organisations. These organisations are helping them to serve the needies and maintain a harmonious society as well. It this way, they not only plant good meritorious deeds, making their earned income more valuable.... :D

I think must serve as minister then you can get pension.
MP not included.
If they are not in politics for money give up their pension! All go for money, people serving is a stepping stone for earning quick big bucks for them
We only hear the PM, President and ministers asking the people to donate to charities but they do not ask themselves to do it. Greedy pigs.
