Mr Lee acknowledges role of Home Team, S'poreans in staying calm in turbulent times
04:46 AM Sep 12, 2011SINGAPORE - Singapore has had 10 peaceful years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States, but that did not happen by chance, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong yesterday as he looked back on how the country has been affected by the events of Sept 11, 2001, on the last decade.
Noting that security forces here and the various Home Team agencies have worked hard to keep the country safe, Mr Lee said: "We pre-empted, we detected, we arrested and detained people who would have done bad things to us and done us a lot of harm - not just hurt and kill Singaporeans but brought damage and torn apart our whole society and racial harmony."
The Prime Minister, who was speaking at the Teck Ghee Lantern Night celebrations in Ang Mo Kio, also said that the event affected not only the United States, but also changed the world, triggering a battle with terrorists.
But Singaporeans have lived calmly and the country's racial harmony has been strengthened, and this is something to give thanks and be grateful for, added Mr Lee.
"Our different communities have worked together to come closer together, to build trust with one another, to be able to feel more Singaporean, even though we know that there are tensions and problems in the world outside. And so over 10 years, we've had peaceful years, and we've come closer together."
Mr Lee said he was also glad to see many families from other races coming together for the lantern festival last night.
"When we celebrate the lantern festival or when we celebrate the other community festivals in Singapore - whether it's Hari Raya or Deepavali - we all celebrate together regardless of race, language or religion and tonight I am very happy to see many Malay families, Indian families, bringing their kids here and celebrating with us this lantern festival.
"It reminds us how happy we have been and it reminds us how hard we have to work to keep this harmony together for many years to come," said the Prime Minister.
Mr Lee, who was accompanied by his wife, Ms Ho Ching, for the festivities, was also presented a calligraphy scroll at the event and took part in a lantern walk with residents. -

IMHO, Singapore is safe because No. 1, God blessed Singapura, No. 2, Our boys sacrificed our youth for it.

On the contrary, Singaporeans are very outspoken and all of us stand by our own free will and viewpoints.
However, our gahmen implements very hard handed tactics in an attempt to suppress and obstruct any person or organization that may rise up and challenge them. So far, all who have tried have failed.
The average Singporean doesnt wanna bother about all that shit. We have much more important things to worry about. Because Singaporeans have come to the realization that nothing else beats protecting our rice bowl and we have to earn as much as money as we can. Everything else is fake except for having money in your pocket. This is particularly amplified living in Singapore's society.
Whoever is in the gahmen doesnt matter to us. Because no matter who is in there, whatever promises they make, they are not doing anything practical to help Singaporeans. Period.
At the end of the day, you and i have only ourselves to depend on for our survival. If tomorrow you were to wake up without a cent on you, you are as good as DEAD. Sayonara pal.. The gahmen is not going to do a shit to help you out of any predicament that may befall upon you.
Singaporeans are not timid, cowardly, naive nor guai. The stinging fact is that if you and i have to even struggle to feed ourselves, how else can we pay our attention to other matters? If your hand stops, your mouth stops, you know?
This is a Work-Til-You-Die country, in case you havent realized.

It is kinda hard for a country of Singapore's size to get into much 'trouble'. Does it really take a 'premium' political party like PAP, which they claim to be, to 'keep the peace'?

The problem here is there they go 'shining up and polishing up their asses' and so they can use that as an excuse to justify their increments and bonuses.
However when something get screwed up, particularly Mas Selamat incident, do you know the officers in charge of the prison facility were either sacked or demoted while someone at the top aka WKS didnt even had a dent at all and had our CEO of Lee corporation covering his butt for him?
Where is the corporate social responsibility here man ?

Why do we even need you to tell us that? We pay you a million dollar salary for you to tell us something we already know ?
Everyday i flip the newspaper, i always notice a lot of REDUNDANT speeches and stuff by our gahmen in it.
Why cant they say or do something really constructive to help citizens for a change? Every single day just wayang and bullshit in the hopes to bluff through then get their lottery size salaries at the end of the month.
Seriously, if this is the best our TOP TALENT in Singapore can do, then our country have no hope ler.
