It's safe la...it's not like you are in constant danger. Just don't go out alone too late at night. When walking on the pavement, carry bags on the blind side etc. Just like any other country.

Got anti chinese sentiments?

I would have thought so, not jkt, not medan, and definitely not bali. In some of these places you would be given hardship allowance. 2 yrs there as expat you probably get enough to pay for half a house back home.

are you chinese, or do you look chinese?
jogja or bundung

Huh?

Not these days. Anti-chinese sentiment has died down a long way back since the 1998 riots. In fact, the chinese run the show in the private sector here. Most businesses around Java are run by Chinese. It would be absolutely criminal to see a Chinese working as a waiter or sales promoter here, unlike Singapore. Presidents since habibie have always recognised that. A lot of the business delegates who accompany Yudhoyono for overseas trips are actually Chinese.

2 years? Well, that's possible. In fact, real income for singaporean expats is about double here as compared to back home. As in, things in Indo are about half as cheap as in Sg, so real income doubles that way.
In jkt and medan, it's still highly affordable. In fact, most people pay up their cars within 2 to 3 years. Bali definitely not, the prices there are first world lol.
What I like about where I am is that the rich are not show boaty. They can drive their ordinary hondas and toyotas despite being extremely loaded. Take air asia for business trips and then business or first class only when going holidays.
Happens mainly for smaller cities. The bigger ones like jkt and surabaya are pretty much big city mentality. Die die also want face and show people they have big houses and cars.
Rags to riches stories here are terrifically amazing and common. It's been an absolutely humbling experience meeting these people on a daily basis.

The ABS and DIAC both define long-term departure as being a stay of 12 months or more, based upon comparison of dates on outgoing and incoming passenger cards. That being the case, contract work could very easily fall into the long-term departure category.
Singapore's best for security reasons....but its almost impossible to retire early....
