Govt affirms aim to involve more S'poreans in developing ideas & policies
By Evelyn Choo | Posted: 16 July 2011 0011 hrsSINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has affirmed the government's aim to involve more Singaporeans in developing ideas and policies that affect them.
He hopes Singaporeans will respond in the same spirit.
Mr Lee was speaking at the official opening of the School of the Arts (SOTA) on Friday.
Mr Lee cited the example of an ongoing strategic review of the arts sector.
The Arts and Culture Strategic Review involves the public, private and people sectors, with the goal of mapping out Singapore's cultural landscape by 2025.
The aim is to get four in five Singaporeans to attend at least one arts and cultural event each year by 2025.
Mr Lee called on members of the arts community, including SOTA's students, to contribute to the thought process.
He said: "The review and the committee will consult students widely. We will conduct focus group sessions, we will launch an online consultation portal.
"We would like to have your ideas of what you would like to do, how you would like us to go about building this arts scene for the future, strategically, patiently, starting now."
Congratulating SOTA on its official opening, Mr Lee said the school is an example of how the country is opening up multiple paths to different talents.
SOTA is Singapore's first national pre-tertiary arts school.
It offers a six-year curriculum that integrates arts and academia for youths aged 13 to 18 years.

So is he going to monitor if we have attended any of these programmes every year. Instead of focusing on helping people with the basic issues of life he is talking crap on this. We don't need this sissy useless PM to interfere our freedom.

sometimes, pls la.. sit down and think onto wat can work, wat cannot work in reality.
Dun end up being e same as we scold of doing theortical things.

Oppressive style stifles creativity and productivity. Unless your ideas can help them to fatten their pockets, sure they will accept.

We pay them multi million dollar salaries, now they want us to do the brain work for them.
Actually, if they solicit ideas from us, they should pay us their salary for that year if our suggestions are used.

They are (very highly) paid to milk our ideas freely? Whatever happened to intellectual property rights? Or are they trying to milk our $$$ to support their idea of Arts? What I see and hear are censor, censor, censor...
Singapore is not a corrupt country. Its a country beyond corruption which worked quite well, until recently....

Reminds me of PAP attacking WP's nationalisation of public transport the next day they made the proposal. The transport minsters better solve overcrowding in MRT. Everyday have to stand until I reached home. Throw angry birds at him if he cannot solve this issue.
