To put it simply, he did not feel the ground, talk to the people at all. Sporean wont definately want such pple to run the country policies.
If you are not capable of managing a Ministry, then I think you should not have accepted the appointment, rather than accepting the appointment for money sake (or maybe dignity), and when trouble arise you tell us you are not an engineer capable of solving the problem.
He's making himself a fool in front of the tv.
What for going around and talk to the people after the flood? What for bolting up turbular handrails after a death of a young boy? Obviously they are clueless on handling this kind of problems and yet rec' a high salary.
And what are those so called scholars and dogs doing? Cannot solve the problems? Happy to rec high pay and cannot solve or LISTEN to pples problems?
he really should be removed from his position in civil service.
never mind if he faces problems. in fact thats why he's paid that kind of money. how can he said he cant promise outcome.
FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN PROMISE OUTCOME!!!

Are you kidding?
Were you there when Johore flooded?
Entire palm trees disappeared in the water and people lost their lives!
Have some brains before you speak for god's sake. My relatives there had a nightmarish time of their lives in that particular CNY.

Maybe its the Marian Barrage...certainly building a dam changes the drainage pattern and Orchard flooding suddenly became common after the dam went up.
let's go swimming! YA!

in Singapore, flooding is news, many places in Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, it floods whenever it rains, not news anymore.

Yeah !!!
Yes.
But the 2009 flood in Johore was the gia si lang type. Cars were swept away, rivers burst their banks, and entire villages underwater. It took a couple of mths for the water to actually drain off.
And the recent few floodings were pretty bad also. Johore was never known to be as prone to flooding compared to the eastern coast.
In short its not just SG that had to deal with recent freak weather patterns.
Time to build an ark to prepare for flood that will submerge Singapore in the future.

Like beta says, some people can give you the same answer at a fraction of their million dollar salaries.
Heck.
Any ah pek and ah soh at the kopitiam can say the same thing and all they want to be paid is one kopi O siu dai.

Flood another 50 more times, it will become just another day in sunny Singapore.

The weather changed, nino effect, global warming....in southern china usually typhoon season, now drought. I guess what the official says is right, our infra structure need to improve to cope with the changes.
We can only build so much flood barriers...
We can only build so much flood barriers...
we can build those water pump + tanks, but problem is maintenance.
You see, those water pumped in are filled w/ soil or even mud, you clear the water slowly aft e rain, you need ppl to clean it as well
Exactly. The Johor floods were a river bursting its banks after a monsoon. The river collects rainwater from all over Malaysia, it's not surprising.
We don't have such natural disasters or rivers here right? No excuse.

Thats not true to an extent...in all my years I've lived...which is not that many, I've never heard of my relative's area getting flooded....much less twice in just about as many years.
And why no excuse?
You know SG is a low-lying country right...?
All it takes is rain + high tide.
Sure flood de.

recent years nia
My relative still ranting abt e 7ft high flood
Vivian can pray to Rain god to stop the rain.
No rain no flood.
Ya la.
I remember driving through Yong Peng....the oil palm top barely sticked out of the water and the road was badly damaged.
And the water supply all cut....cant bathe, cant cook, cant drink.
That's not normal at all! Especially in Johore...
actually, the problems is very hard to solve. there is simply not enough greenland to absorb the rainwater.
with so many building the rainwater falling on rooftop, concrete floor will be channel into the drainage system this will cause pressure cooking and cause them to overflow.
this is just another evidence of our singapore poor goverance that want to increase population and neglect public infrastructure. trains, housing, drainage......
i would strongly urge PUB or relevant ministry to come clean on the problems and advice the PAP govt the truth. dont fool us!!
give him a chance..
he just took over from another idiot (see pic)
if next year flood again, then you can bay for his blood.. and this time, he'd have no excuses because he would have been given one whole year to right the "mistakes" the idiot above made
