Singapore actually have lots of people who meet the criteria for Presidency. They are not restricted to only the names you know in the PAP government.
Most are reluctant.

So people are like geez WTF, why bother to stand in the elections in the first place? If he had announced his retirement 2 weeks earlier, who knows SPP might have taken that GRC. Lets not even get into marine parade.
