A Resident's Testimony about Chiam See Tong and Potong Pasir
Copied from Jenny Ong's status and "republished" with permission.
Jenny Ong:
I think I must say this about Mr Chiam ST after living in Potong Pasir for coming 12 years...
Mr Chiam is really a man with a heart for the people that are under his charge.
Thus far, I have never paid a single cent- not even 1 cent for all the things he had done for my estate. He did..
1) lift upgrading( not every level though but i...t's good enough cuz he changed for us a new n bigger lift )
2) fire hydrant door
3) carpark upgrading
4) painting for my block
5)change pipe( sewage )
6) jogger track( he overlaid the pavement as it was an uneven track)
7) covered walkway ( no fear of rain snow or hail!)
8) re- cementing every level !
For all these, I think I'm grateful to him cuz with whatever limited n little fund that he has, he did what he could do for the residents of potong Pasir. He is really a politician from the alternate voice that I respect.
My husband said our conservancy rate is one of the lowest in spore, maybe it's true.. We r paying $49.90 monthly (4 rooms flat).
Ok, a few days ago, we received a pamphlet from PAP Sitoh who informed us that my block is selected for LUP (lift upgrade for every floor) and if majority vote for it , i have to co- pay 7.5% of the cost. Hmm.... With PAP in the picture , does it = pay and pay literally? (Ariel adds, "in case you don't know, all lift upgrading and extra-room-upgrading is co-pay)
Vote PAP if you want to PAY AND PAY

the loss of chiam is a loss for potong pasir, the loss of geroge is a loss for singapore.
chiam can still serve potong pasir as the pap did over the years to win back potong pasir. we won't have george as our foreign minister.

Nobody is indispensable, even if LKY is not around, life will still go on, it is not a lost, maybe better.
Dear Citizens,
We should not be still living in a infant politic society, we must learn to come into maturity with politics, then we can truly call ourselves a democratic society that can match any developed demo society like the west. Whoever lost or win, it is not a lost or something big, it is just democratic at it very best. All this petition and crying over lost are pathetic action of a immature society with regard to politics.
LUP should be free for all the resident.
Resident should not pay a single cent at all.
LUP should be free for all the resident.
Resident should not pay a single cent at all.

Being a good minister doesn't mean he is indispensible. an experienced minister can always be replaced, but the new one will take time to be seasoned.
Why do we need to match "any developed demo society like the west"? are those societies any better?
But what you said about the petition and tears are true, they need to learn to lose graciously, like george, such character is not easy to find, so it is not about indispensible, but some quality is not easy to find.

I understand Mandai Columbarium LUP completed two years ago.

Why don't you ask the party who hung him out there to fight an opposition A team after years of mismanaging Singaporea with bad policies and making increasing resentment to record levels? And then have a wise old man with knuckledusters come in and make things worse by telling people to repent?
You think the electorates are dogs ah? Will they keep taking indiginities after indinities and keep voting them back? They didn't vote against George Yeo, they voted against the PAP. Given he is one of the more progressive ministers, do you think that some of the hardliners set him up because they wanted him to go away?
With friends like these who needs enemies?
My friend flat will be having lup soon, he gonna pay (I think $6k)...that is alot of money.

you believe everything someone tells you?
have you visited Hougang yourself?
this is the 21st century. with all the emphasis on education, critical thinking should be a commodity by now, but sadly this is apparently not so

Should we ask the worker party why they sent in their A team to aljunied? George has worked in Aljunied for the last 20 years, to move him out for fear of losing to the opposition A team would be admitting defeat, no good for the image of the party, no good for the morale of the team he would have left behind.
We hear many conspiracy theories about putting Lim Swee Say in Aljunied, blah blah blah....but fortunately George didn't blame the party, otherwise, with members like that, who needs oppositions?
Fed up of people calling opposition wards slum. You know why PAP wards are not as clean, and the "upgrading" is stupid?
It's because of the PAP MPs eyeing promotion and neglecting their ward! To the contractors, these wards are a gold mine. I bet all these contractors voted for PAP.
If I'm not wrong, LUP co payment is not needed in opposition wards....it's free. In PAP wards, they need to co-pay. Imagine some old folks already struggling to make a living and they have lifts on their floor.....yet they have to co-pay 75% of it. It can mean a few hundred to more than a thousand per household.
There's so much money in the sinking fund, couldn't that have been used? Then again this is PAP Inc. You get what you vote for.

That is because, Opposition town council manage funds more efficiently. Chiam See Tong upgraded 29 lifts for $2 million.
See who is more diligent in dealing with contractors?
