recently i read thru that few military and police officer are retiring early to join the PAP.
while i do not quite convince about their motive to serve the nation but their former identity does not strike well with me.
I do not support top military and police brass to join politics. We have to separate the role of politicians and military personnel separate. Currently we already have lui tuck yew, Teo chee hean, george yeo, LHL all holiding ministerial position. That is already a very high % in the whole ministerial cabintet. Are we going to be rule by military regime? what kind of political path are we persueing?
It also seem like the there is close behind the door relationship between the PAP and military and police topmen. it has become the breeding ground for the future leaders of Singapore too. If in the future , the ruling regime is being charge with corruption and ppl strike in the streets as case in libya, egypt, where does our police and miliary position?
uniform personnel can onli take orders n dun have a brain of their own
so they r good politic dogs
military and police force love to say YES SIR.

doesn't matter who join PAP lah....................
we all know if they're really talented, LKY and son won't want them liao.................lest they become a threat to father and son...................
to be a minister...................you mustn't grow a brain..................
just be the most obedient dog you can be.......................
skillful bootlickers will have advantage................
well it seem most ppl dont really know the difference between PAP and country.
we take pledge to protect not any political parties in times of crisis. If the there is influx of top military and policemen into the political scene, we might not be able to see this difference much clearer. maybe we are leaning towards the path of military regime.
Junta, thai royal army, PLA( sworn loyalty to the communist party ahead of country).
that's the problem.......................people always think PAP = S'pore..................
so they scared to vote PAP out..................becoz they scared of Big Govt...............
civil servants automatically think they're working for PAP.................
yup, agree romanista. when i go back to reservist, talking to my former regular ka kia, it amazing there is still the fear factor in voting for opposition and not able to distingish the difference between singapore and PAP.
those in uniform group scared if vote opposition, cannot promote mah...............
that's why S'pore has the biggest bureaucracy in the world........................relative to pupulation size................
more civil servants.............more votes for PAP.............LKY and son stay as rulers lor...............

Yes some civil servant tot votes are tracked and will affect future prospects.
They are traitors, real citizens will not don white at this time.
i have mixed feeling about the process....both good and bad.
On the one hand i can see the advantage given the exposure of ensuring the basic security of Singapore. Gone thru leadership training etc....There are many countries where leader start off from Green. Although being a leader of a Island city state is not the same as being a military leader, but i am sure those who took off uniform and put on a business suit will adapt quickly.
But here is the hindsight about the process of transforming military leader to civilain leaders.....there are no Crazy General with a Political Career ambition on the Right hand and Trigger on the left hand...... in our SAF!!!
North Korea General an example do we know when they are going to take sucidal action against the south.
Thailand Military General...... so long as they wear Yellow ribbon a defacto excuse for Coup.
Super Ego General Gadhafi.....that goes without saying.........

then those mid-level civil servants they only care about their salaries...................
they care about nothing else....................
but they fail to realize they might have a good life......................but their kids will have to face the growing hordes of foreigners.........

I think it depends on how much influence these military leaders have on the military when they take off their uniform permanently.
It is better for military leaders with political ambition to be politicians rather than using military to achieve political ambition.

for those who said military leaders who take off their uniforms no longer have influence on the military. who can gurantee? why take the risk if we can get ride of this potential risk. current defence minister is former chief of Navy. Lui tuck yew also former Chief of navy.
do you give face to your former superior who promote you to replace him?
another pt i would like to make is the ruling leaders like such bootlicking generals tat careerist and opportunist than they care about serving the nation. they tends to blindly follow whatever order given by the ruling leaders. we would end up having bunch of scholars who would get 高潮by bootlicking.

To an extent, ex military leaders will have influence on some people in the military, same as ex civil servants, ex school principals, ex unionists, ex CEO ...... this is inevitable. But after taking off their uniforms, can the military leaders still get the military to support him, or the students to support the principals, or the civil servants to support their former head of department, or the ex union head to mobilize the workers to walk the street, can the CEO mobilize the wealth of his previous company for his own political agenda? the answer is NO.
You also argue that an ex military leader could run the country like an army, or an ex school principal think all citizens are their students, or an ex CEO's interest is to make money for the country with little regards for the people....there are many possibilities.
But for the former chief of Navy to become our defence minister, it is better for than any other who does not have any experience run a part of a total armed forces to run our national defence agency, and look after our soldiers!
There is never a perfect leader!
The worst that can happen is for a politician to run the country just for political reason
They like the pay of Singapore politicians !!!
