A HDB 5rm brand new is roughly S$320K to S$450K....how can that be affordable??? Have to repay 20y to 30y housing loans....become a "slave" to the house....

between myself and my intended, our pay is just.. JUST.. over $8k
it's not high.. considering our age and how long we've worked...
and condo? we can't afford it since it all starts at 7 figures.. and the lower end ones are such that you have to go out of the apartment to change your mind...
i'm not kidding.. we looked.. there was one going at $1.8m.. 3 rooms.. the biggest room was smaller than the normal room of a normal HDB flat, the smallest room, i held out both my arms and touched both the opposite walls.. the room was less than 1.8m wide.. the salesman was also shocked because he didn't think it was that small
these are not places to live in...
now back to HDB.. btw, the $8k limit has been unchanged since the time one of the clerical officers bought her flat when they got married.. her daughter is now 23 years old..
think about it

I think the rationale is, the flat has already spent 25 of 99 years lease. So if they are forced to buy a new flat with 99 years, they will charge 25% x 200K (selling price of a new flat) = 50K.
What are the problems? Old people no need the 99 years. They are happy where they are. The new flat can be sold for less, it is smaller. They cannot afford a new flat elsewhere.
I can just see these old folks working to their grave. Or moving into 1 room flats. Sad.

Aiyah, in short can't retire in SG due to rising costs of HDB prices....moving to 1 room flats are out of the question....
What is worse, I realise the flats are right next to Clementi MRT and are 34 years old! In this case, how is 50K fair compensation for 65 remaining years of lease! And how do you expect them to buy the new flats offered to them, also next to Clementi MRT?
Those old folks are totally screwed over!
The problem is not whether they can retire or not. They cannot get bank loans. They will have to move to lousier flats, start paying interest all over again, and never retire.
Have to plan properly for old age....
And olso must hv contingent plans if suddently up lorry before retire

then dun over commit lah, alot of peoples likes to talk and comments about other life, but failed to look at themselves, where they are, what are they, who are they, and so on, many become unhappy due not mainly to not earning enuf, but rather excessive spending, loaning and crediting is killing them of happiness. Many fall into the realm of commericial advertisment, peers comparing pressure and materialism. Never once in their life they know what is a simple life, cos they never been to a monastery to be trained like me. Know your limitation

Yes, a kampung within 70sq metres is the future.
Aiyoh, I can't imagine my children buying HDBs next time....they'll probably have a tough time repaying housing loans....

Well, they can alway find a way to make you die, then use your saving and claimed insurance to buy private property and live happily everafter.
