Employer have many way to by pass minimum wage.
HK major fast food chain Cafe De Coral increase hourly wage.
But then deduct the lunch time as NO PAY,citing other peer have doing the same!!
The only way that minimum wage will work is that SG government
1. mandatory employers to hire certain numbers of staff . AND
2. NEVER fire them!
BTW, one of fast food chain in HK already buy a tickets vending machine to replace
cashier. thanks to the passing of minimum wage laws in HK!!

LOL... Singapore full time and part time workers dun even get paid during lunch hour lor...
But then your suggestion "never fire them" will not work. What if the employee takes the pay and doesnt work. As colleague you gonna cover for the lazy worker? -
I was never a supporter of minimum wage system. It looks good on the outside for people who are getting paid lower than the proposed level of minimum wages but brings about other issues that people usually do not care about until they happen.
However, this cafe de coral issue in HK is also very controversial. The problem was that the chairman of this chain is also in the provisional minimum wage commission. He has always been against raising the minimum wage and yet he sits in that commission. It is disgusting when I read in the local HK newspapers and news programs on how he mentions that by increasing the wages, the costs will be higher and they will be "forced" to find alternatives...in another way, that is a threat. And another program went on to mention how much the CEO and Chairman each earned, millions and millions and yet they have the cheek to say increased costs is a problem for the chain.
I accept that developed economies will have rich-poor gap and is pretty much every man for himself but to be as stupid as putting this guy in the commission is the dumbest thing the HK government yet has done again as with their housing issues.

For Singapore, they usually deduct off your meal time.

I think most of the employers are like that.
Help the company to save cost, yet earn big fat salary.

Last night the news saying using the carbon tax to pay something for the green...I am thinking wtf....pub already got gst tax, why this carbon tax? 1. implement lots of rules and enforce them, actively find out who's abusing loopholes etc etc, work harder basically
or, they could NOT implement minimum wage, no extra work and they still get paid millions.

Sadly spore dont have any min wage, if have, we will not find many low wage foreigners taking over local sporean.
But, now, when you go supermarket or coffee shop, there will have foreigners workers cos they can work very very low salary.
So, if this problem exists in spore, spore will not have any min wage scheme.

i dont understand why prices still continue to rise even after they imported a lot of FWs at lower wages.

Well, they have to operate at a bigger profit margin, but getting lower wage FW and bring prices of goods down is not going to make any differences with getting singaporeans, the trick here is to get Cheaper and Faster FW so as to get Better return by increasing prices, inflation at 3 to 4%, so high, oh my gosh!
In singapore, singaporeans earning $3000 is consider poor, but to FW, it is a MD paid

Our wages system are flexible type, if we set min wage too high, companies may move out, and my pubs may close down due to high cost of labour, if we set min too low, many people will suffer, moreover, we got lots of FWs here, if we set a min wage using an average singaporean pay, those lower paid FWs are going to be very happy.

hi do u know what were the income tax rates for co. as well as for person when GST kicked started ?
1. Co. tax drops a lot, pulling in more companies to ctreate more jobs>>
reduce unemployment.
2. reduce personal income tax>>> u know lah..
3. SG PAP never use land sales proceeds for budget uses!!
All land sales money are locked in RESERVE. u know once it is locked in REVERVE (for next generations--of course), u need an old and wise man
called The President of Republic of Spore to open the safe to use a small piece of golds leaf!
But HK SAG governmetn depend heavely for lands sales proceed!!

1.workers can jump ship.
2. unhappy staff will make unhappy customer.
3. word of mouth spread and ppl boycott such chain.
if such resturant chain decided to do this, think again.
minimum wages are not meant to protect the middle and upper class. it is meant for the lower class ppl to be
1. paid enough to survive
2. induce them to work rather to get state pension or benefits.

Singapore bo benefits so the government doesn't bother about 2.
Paid enough to survive is the issue... but that can wait as economy is more important.... that affects their salary u noe?
