That's TR's ulitmate goal, to get Singaporeans thinking alternatively, not blindly believing what they see and hear. They even welcome contructive criticism to TR, as long as they make Singaporeans think and show some political awareness, instead of bochup which our Govt wants us to be.....
think gotta think properly of its implications.
watever e govt does is never perfect - issue comes is just how it affects today, tml, 5 yrs ltr, 10 yrs later and does it really benefit at e end of e day.
if every bit of e policy is good, i guess it's superman alrdy.
sbst275 is happy about TR's closure coz more people will flock back to sgforums and hear him talk about buses in the shoutbox.

Excellent! You're thinking along a fine line!
If the policy is not good, then question it and provide alternative solutions!
Doesn't matter if your solution is shot down with ridicule, at least have the effort to question! As a Singaporean, for your country, you ought to have the social and moral courage to do that. Unless, you don't regard Singapore as a country anymore...

seriously i dun care whether they close or not, if they want to stay, understand things right and things wun go wrong

but tat's not e way to go abt..
u want to question esp of policies, seriously go question them directly. Sometimes making things public dun make e situation any better.
I've done it w/ over public tpt mattrers.
I guess I hit the nail on its head.

They, I think, wont even bother to listen to feedback for they have their own scholars to make decision for them. So, why public feedback, for them it is noise in their ears.

I believe you have. Don't give up, keep sending them your views and alternatives. Go to the library, look at up the Govt Directory, it's free and it's open, their emails are there.
If you believe strongly in your view, fight for it.
Yes, public transport, it's a part of our lives, it's really important, and really worth fighting for a better system.

You can't blame them, they have to filter the content for the scholars, because if they present to them lock stock and barrel, they do not have the intellect to answer the questions the scholars may ask. That is why they choose the easy answers/questions so that they know how to answer the scholars.

That is a worrying trend our govt are facing.
Not getting a true picture of what actually happen on the ground.
And rely on those scholars who, as you said, filtered out the difficult one and take the easy questions.
In that case, govt will in no time, collapsed.

Yes, because they have to answer their Perm Secs, or Ministers, if they can't answer them easily, their livelihood will be at stake.
There are some really nice scholars who are like you and me, with dreams of working and bringing a better life for Singaporeans, but once they step into the civil circle, they are entwined in a vicious cycle that they may not quite get out.
They HAVE TO perform! Same with their subordinates who HAVE to perform!
So that's Singapore civil service for you.
So that is why it is SO SO important for our talented grads to participate outside the civil service arena, rather then get sucked into the vicious, slowly losing reality of the ground.
but seriously.. who "shut down" TR?

I wonder whether those scholars find it hard especially there are red tapes within the organisation that those scholars simply shut off their mind and goes thru motion, afterall, they get good monthly salary.
10 bucks their closure will be reported in the newpaper tomorrow.

Well i can openly state tat it can take a few correspondence before they can realise what the actual problem is at for complicated matters.
It's like e distance fare. But this system itself was an complicated switch.
But seriously, all it takes is you know how to tackle them.
seriously e scholar issue, if u know the things tat are done could be done better, go figure out wat could be done and wat cannot, evaluate before feedback.
They're huamans after all, they've to listen to suggestions.
For one I managed to get buses 133M into MBS during F1. It's something that was never planned until I feedback in realising e MRT bridging service could still serve MBS.
If the buses could not make a proper u - turn, I wouldn't have suggested.
As much as I have my issues with the ruling party, I have to say that Temasek Review is just way too extreme with how they handle things.
Reading their articles, it seems as though they want to pick a fight with the ruling party for every single little thing even when there is really nothing to fight about.
One classic article I remember was one where they took the weather service to task for wrongly predicting that there would be a thunderstorm over the weekend. Eh hello, weather also want to take issue ah? Don't they realize that there is always a significant amount of uncertainty in weather forecasting? What do they expect NEA to do - get real-time weather forecast updates from God?
I'm not telling them to kiss the toes of people they don't like and to throw bouquets at them. All I'm saying is, don't just oppose for the sake of opposing, and don't try picking fights just because you don't like the other fella.
Sorry, TR. Reading your site, I don't know whether to LOL or to facepalm......
I prefer Temasek Review to PAP state propaganda mouthpieces like Straits Times.

yes, I guess TR or other alternative sites need to bring out the important issues to task and light, rather then the example you sited. TR and alternative sites need people like you who know how alternative views should be presented in order not to disgust the silent majority. Perhaps you can write in to TR when they are back and offer your views.
They need feedback to improve you know.

Well, if TR is permanently down, as the TOC site has said, then it's a bit too late for that, no?
By all means discuss about real and proper issues instead of taking NEA to task for not predicting the weather correctly, or taking SCDF to task for their (I quote TR) 'patriachical approach' towards Mustafa Center's fire safety violations. So, if Mustafa Center went up in flames and got lots of casualties from violating fire safety codes, I suppose TR will thank SCDF for not being so 'patriachical'?
By the way, the correct term is 'paternalistic', not 'patriarchical'. Their attempt to sound cheem has failed.
On a more serious note, articles like those have convinced me that they are unable to walk the middle path of objectivity and careful analysis, and just make a lot of noise for the sake of making noise.
If I see a little kid trying to pick a fight for the most trivial of reasons, I would call him a bully. So where does that leave Temasek Review?

It's never too late, even if they are down, there are other alternative views sites which you can contribute.
The fact that you bothered to visit TR, bothered and perturbed by some of their articles, and yet presumely, you DID not even bother to write in to TR to express your views to them to report issues that matter?
I mean, why raise this in this thread when you could have voiced it to TR earlier?

Why? Because that's what I did.
I wrote pretty much what I just told you in the comments section of those articles. And so did a few other readers.
In the end, I just gave up on that site. If they did raise a few good points, then unfortunately, it got lost in all the noise they created alongside it.
