Last elections in 2006 saw 33% opposition voters, and Lee Hsien Loong's GRC also saw 33% opposition voters.
Will percentage of opposition voters increase or decrease in upcoming general elections?
Decrease.
I think it will increase to 40+%
I reckon it'll go down to 25%.
I think a chance of decrease might be 45%, 40% chance to increase and 15% stay within the 5% of the votes when compared to the 2006 GE.
Well, in the past, usually the year ends with a "1" is jia lat one, like Anson by-election, 1981, 1991 General Election but in 2001, PAP performance is superb.
Based on recent "1" performance, PAP should increase in the votes to say 70% and above, especially with the help of new citizens. However, the recent boos and what may really increase opposition votes just like 1991??
I wont expect that Opp. get like <= 25% of votes but I dont think Opp can get >40 % of votes. At their best, Opps can get only 39% of votes.

PAP superb performance in 2001 was due to the 911 incident in the US. The election was in Nov 2001, 2 months after the incident. But too bad there will not be a second 911 or sort and so PAP can forget about getting > 70% again.

What's the connection between 911 attacks and Singapore 2001 elections?

Shouldnt the 2001 elections be in 2002?
And it was a known fact as well that the ppl wants the security as a new global crisis is emerging, and hence need a strong government to take care of it.
Increase in opposition percentage.
40+% opposition but PAP will still be dominant 50+%.

Fear of uncertainty... as explained by Straits Times political correspondence in a news report earlier tis year.... And PAP back then was doing well.. Economy was doing extremely well in the 1990s... 1997 Asian Economic Crisis hit us... but economy rebounded well with PAP back then.
But now... story doesnt seem quite the same...

Straits Times, yes. But, what is clearly shown is that whenever a crisis, it is a good chance to frighten / threat voters that say: "See, now crisis liao. Only me (PAP) can successfully bring the tide over ....." which translates to superb performance.
This time round harder to convince.. cos they say economy good... but we arent reaping any good stuff from what they say....

All just PAP propaganda.
Entire state media is all PAP propaganda.
Everything in TV, print, radio - all is controlled and manipulated by PAP to control society. To turn a human being into a robotic depoliticised person that will accept PAP autocratic rule.
To accept a prison as a home.
This book explores this inherent contradiction present in most facets of Singaporean media, cultural and political discourses, and identifies the key regulatory strategies and technologies that the ruling People Action Party (PAP) employs to regulate Singapore media and culture, and thus govern the thoughts and conduct of Singaporeans.
It establishes the conceptual links between government and the practice of cultural policy, arguing that contemporary cultural policy in Singapore has been designed to shape citizens into accepting and participating in the rationales of government. Outlining the historical development of cultural policy, including the recent expansion of cultural regulatory and administrative practices into the ‘creative industries’, Terence Lee analyzes the attempts by the Singaporean authorities to engage with civil society, the ways in which the media is used to market the PAP’s policies and leadership and the implications of the internet for the practice of governmental control.
Overall, The Media, Cultural Control and Government in Singapore offers an original approach towards the rethinking of the relationship between media, culture and politics in Singapore, demonstrating that the many contradictory discourses around Singapore only make sense once the politics and government of the media and culture are understood.

While reading Straits Times, you can always judge for yourself... which is fact.. which is propaganda. =)

I suppose u can choose to believe that every thing in Straits Times politics are propaganda, true enough, but it is also common sense tactics used in any nation that a crisis is a good way to earn supporters.
Dont believe, think another way:
If u like a girl, but dunno when to start a relation, I guess the best chance (Not always will get one), is to see her sad / down times and stand up to console her etc. (Evil minded but hey.....)

The election in 2001 was a snap election. PAP called for election 2 months after 911 incidents was to gain more votes due to the fear of a crisis ahead.
Population has increased from 4 million to 5 million in a space of few years.
A part of that 1 million increase are new citizens.
What do you think?

Sounds like more PAP propaganda.
There were elections in 1968 when the british wanted to pull out troops from Singapore. PAP also played on that to gain votes.
Since PAP is not transparent, how will we know if the votes are not fixed(by the PAP)?
Just saying.

Educate them, tell them what they don't know about PAP, make them see the other side of PAP.

Members of the opposition will be in presence to witness the counting of votes, but anything can happen as they don't broadcast the counting process live on TV.
