How can it be possible that an influx of migrant workers be use to boost the shortage of babies directly? Indirectly, it does help in topping up the working population group by country demographic.

I wonder when the harsh economic times comes, will the government be able to follow the steps of New Zealand or not. When NZ locals cannot find job and their overseas compatriot came back after being kicked away in the country they worked in. NZ government did not further approve the permits for a lot of the immigrants, so that their own can have a job.
A bit more different is that, NZ have the same population as us, but their land is soooo much more bigger, so the squeeze is another story.

They are so smart to think of importing more people to make up for the shortage of babies.
Then again, they never thought that in 20 - 30 years time, all these people they bring in will become old.
I guess they will start kicking old people out once they are of no economic use to the country.
Looks like surrounding countries will be the dumping ground of old Singaporeans in the near future.

no money financial stability to raise kids - kids growth up become burden deficit to society. no thanks. gahmen gave us shit we at least i not going to pay back society by giving birth to shit and giving shit back to society. i miseed the middle era when all the faces we see are typical sgreans. now. haiz. think want to start family can start arh so easy? i am glad my generation shall be the last, at least i am not going to bring a new next generation into a country that become too 'zapzheng'

Children of these lower ranks and creed, have gone on to make it big, and having moved to the upper economic belt, also find it hard to have kids.
So it is not the creed, but money management. Of living within your means.
When a home must be a condo, a car (or two) is a must, plus a lifestyle to maintain, there isn't much money left after that. All those money could have been used for the kids.

Yeah, very difficult to raise more than 2 kids.
Money money and money...lots of money to natur a kid to become a better person in future.
From baby to nursery, kindergerdan, primary school, secondary....all needs money and time.
Cost of living increased, everything increased, salary stagnant...couples rather dont have kids or rather have 1 will do.
Cant they see the problems?

Foreign workers are here to work, not come here help you pop babies. *rolleyes* They don't have time for that. Plus most Spore girls doesn't even look at Fillpinos or China workers. Not in their league. & for Spore guys, only dirty old man will look at young China chicks. Give birth? Save the trouble lah.

Workers we are not interested, cos they are here to work under work permit, what we are more interested are foreign talents, tho they came here and work, they tends to bring along their families and in turn give birth to childrens here, we are not putting a gun on their head and ask them to be singaporeans, we are hoping that out of 1 millions FT coming here, at least 1/3 remain and make singapore their home, and that is about 320,000 of them, and if each couple give birth to 2 childrens to be singapore citizens, we would had another 320,000, a total of 640,000 thousands that could help to further enhance our population and so on. We do not expect all FT or FW to stay here, that is for sure, but we are hoping and in fact it is happening that more than 1/3 of them decided to make this place their home, so kindly welcome them with open arms, thank you.

Why can't we just import migrant babies instead?
Then every singaporean childless couple can adopt them lar. We only take in babies ! The average busy singaporean working woman who have no time for wedding but want contuinity of their blood line can start adopting babies from neighbouring countries that are abandoning their own. Preferably chinese bloodline.

We need workers to do contrusction work such as building and roads and sweepers for they can work with a min. pay package. That really save alot of money for a contractor who hire them.
There are many jobs that sporean unable to accept due to salary too low. Salary too low, how to survive and feed my children right?
And those main contractors will tend to hire foreign workers, cheap mah. Sporean die fast for this case.
Yes, I talked to my colleagues (white collar), he's planning to bring his family + kids over if he settle down here as he's work permit is pending upon approval.

Maybe Ahmad,Samy or Ah Kow dont like to watch TV at night?I think it is not about being able to afford more kids but the lifestyle itself.Rich people often make themselves so busy that they tend to be reminded who they really are from time to time.

Nobody really dont want to have baby, better to be singles, as having baby will takes up a whole chunck of your life and time.
And of course, MONEY!!! I am not talking about $1k or $2k, it is $10k to $50k kind of money to spend to nurture your kids, educations, medical, insurances, fees, etc....

But single more expensive leh, like i use to book single room, single seat, single tour fare, more expensive than twin sharing, so, think about it, it might not be better off being single. And if everyone think like you, who prefer to be single, what will happen here? Get young foreigners in??

Well i remember my mum used to tell me that i cause them to get fined for having me the 3rd one in the family in 1975 . The govt posed a fine on the 3rd child in 1972 . And my mum always scold me no matter what i do no matter right or wrong . I was just the venue to vent her anger cause i caused them to be fined even when my parents were already damm poor . And they even attempted to " con " me away to indonesia .
Now they say they want more babies and ask pple to have more babies while they go and up the prices of everything then bring down our salaries ? I always tell my friend politics are just irresponsible talk by irresponsible pple " up there " . When they give baby bonus , my bro just missed the bonus by a few month only and there goes the money . Now its NS bonus that me and my bro missed . So can we say that the younger generations are singaporean while the older ones are not ? Thats why they don't get the money ?

Rising costs of living, Ageing population and shortage of housing is whats the problem.
Not enough money for the younger generation

It is unlikely that tthey will abandon ship if what you meant is they really leave SG for good. Cos they simply open up themselve for the angry mob to do whatever they want without much protection.
Staying put would be a better choice more over they could be seen as responsible staying put to deal with situation and also with their mass fortunate, they are already any crisis free. Just my opinion

from 1975 to 2010, you and your family become rich, able to buy computer( IT Savy), able to use internet (education), i think you should be bless that you are what you are today because our govt make it happen for you. As for your parent treatment against you, you learn to keep it to yourself, do not tarnish your family name in the public.

Blaming culture, laziness, unproductive, everything expect to be serve on a silver platter...that is the problem of today youngs, me included.We should therefore take a holistic view into it, if not, everyday blame this and that, it will never end, and nothing will move and that end up same same, but different ways of grumbling and complaining

low birth rate is a collection of many other factors not just limited to just govt factors. low birth rate is a common problems to developed nation such as taiwan, korea, japan.
