anybody knows the scope of the types of problems that you can go to your MP about?
i know things like fines are there, so far problems with town facilities and questions about financial aid
what about things like school admission and family problems? etc. (i know they might not be able to help but would they turn you away)
how does a meet the people session work?
(ive never been to one)
before u meet the MP, you make appointment with his or her secretary first, if your problem is consider too minor for the MP take note, you dun even get to see the MP, and even if your problem is really a huge one, you also have to wait in the Q, by which they will tell you when to come.
If you really want to see the MP fast, be a CC or RC member, alternatively, if you sponsor alot to the community like my Dad did, the MP personally can come and visit you, if not, you wait long long...
and please, all lighters, matches, and highly flammable liquid are ban from entering the MP office...take note, they can charge you
then how does a meet the people session work?
and what problems are considered too minor to meet the MP about?
you can surf from Internet...for your GRC meeting people session.
for example ( Bishan-Toa Payoh ) is on every Tuesday. 8pm @ Bishan St 13, Block 196.
Try to be early - get a Q number and wait for your turn - to be interview by his (MP) ka kia (assistants) before meeting the MP himself/herself...(normally spend 1-3mins... haha. he will surely say... okie.. i will write a letter on your behalf....
I have met my MP twice already... (Mr Wong KS).
good luck.

maybe small issue to him... but big for us (normal citizen)....
try to be 1hr earlier.. hence 7pm...
MP are supposed to assist the citizens...
just ignore those who thought they knew alot... but never even went to their MP... wat make appointment ?? don't know just don't comment.... don't mislead people...
haha... i went to the cc just now they told me just go to the meet the people session..
things like appeal for school admission, would the MP help out?
just do it - lah ...
be early @ MP, the meeting the people session...
He (MP) will at least, give you some good advices ... rather than you asking around (here) and some people may be misleading you...
some people = { don't know say don't know - don't act clever }...
i went to my GRC's MP some time back...
first, if u stay in a GRC, u can choose to go to ANY of the GRC MPs, not just the one representing your street
once u go to the place, usually RC or void deck child care centre, the volunteers will see ur IC n check where u stay. then give u queue number..
then later someone will scream out your number.. you go to a room where volunteers will ask you/ key in what is the issue/ problem you need help. they may also check for your past "attendances". then after diagnosing your problem you go out n wait for your number to be called.
this time, you go in and see your MP or usually, his assistants who will tell give you the advice, usually promising to write a letter to the party concerned, and cc u after a few days....
"ridiculous", persistent or regular patients can be turned away.
effectiveness of letters depends on the MP you see, i must say

No need make appointment. Just walk-in during Meet-the-people session. Bring IC. You'll need to fill up a form on what category ur problem is in. Then u get a Q no and wait. You'll meet the grassroot leaders first to elaborate on ur problem. The grassroot leader will write a letter on ur MP's behalf. Then go out and wait again until they call u to meet the MP.
There are many many categories of problems or requests u can talk to the MP abt. I'm not sure what the MP can actually do except write a letter of appeal for u. Perhaps for school admission wise, MP may write a letter for u and send to school. But final decision rest with the school. If it's family problems wise, He could direct u to the right places for financial aid, mediation for problems with neighbours, counselling, etc. So me, I've only meet my MP to waive parking fines. keke
Now approaching election liao. MPs may suddenly turn very helpful. So use them, use them well. Haha

They will explain the rules of admission to you, and tell you what you should do.

hmm.. can i go to the meet the mp session to appeal to sign on with spf? cos i gt rejected twice but i dunno the reason y.. i really like this to be my future career..i was hoping that thy can give me an interview first and not hoping to use mp's appeal to get a direct acceptance in the force.. cos i always gt rejected at the assessment stage which i do not know y and i'll just keep applying and get rejected again.. Do u guys think this is valid enough for me to see mp? cos i have no other ppl to write recommendations for me as my ns days are not served with spf

please hor, in layman term, they call it meet the people session, but technically, it means, meet their own special people session. You got to understand this first before we can go on further.
Own people meaning, those 3 legs supporters, friends and relative. Are u one of them?

problem like you owe the govt alot of money...sure the MP will see you. Other than that, if you talk about jobless, low pay, getting loan, funneral issue, cannot pay medicate bills or phone bills etc etc, he/she dun even bother to look at it

Think the MP will not see you, you write a petition in and he/she will just write a letter of recommendation for you to visit IMH for a free checkup first.

You may have the required qualifications, physical and on paper, but not the x factor.
It means you personality, character, acumen, mentality do not suit police work.
That means the MP cannot help you.
