That's the budget from MCYS. Simple stats but goliath significance. The country's image matters a lot more than us peasants.
didn't Lau Lee say that there are no destitute people in Singapore?
reminds me of Iran's Ahmadinejad saying there are no gay people in Iran
the YOG is LKY's son's pet project...............to show his masters what he can do.............
just like the mass immigration of foreigners into S'pore...........and Formula 1............and the casinos............he's trying to turn S'pore into like Monaco...........
also see how much money we've spent on the military since LHL became PM and how active SAF has been in Afghanistan, etc................
all these are part of LHL's plans to impress his real bosses.......
it makes no sense to give the YOG to S'pore and not Moscow as we don't have a strong sports heritage and our sports facilities are quite jialat............heck, our national stadium is not presentable at all !
we got 2 durians, moscow has the st. basil's cathedral built by Ivan the Great. What a world of difference.
the jewish-owned West no like Russians mah............
frankly, if they had a good look at our national stadium............who the Fish will give us the YOG..............even M'sia has far more impressive stadiums than us !
some more the freaking hot weather.............how to perform like that !!!
later rain like hell leh..............never mind the flash floods...........
This reminds me of the ongoing World Cup....
The South African government has spent US$3 billion on new stadiums, some of which would only see four matches held.
I've read about economists who have claimed that that money could be better spent on things like low-cost housing to replace slums.... and I can't really argue with that.

what can I say, vivian hates poor people so he'd rather blow the $$$ on events like YOG.
end of the day, world cup also politics. people dying of poverty in s africa but the world cup brings a feel gd factor to every citizen.
I dun think sgporeans will complain if WC comes. But YOG? I dun even think YOG is known to other countries. It's probably been forgotten. And all that publicity u see in the media and on the streets in the coming months are all just within singapore.
They already spend money to make the foreigners feel comfy here. What is this to them for YOG? Seriously, this is the first time I hear something called YOG.
Wonder will they have a report for this expenditure? And also, the mcys claims that local business will profit from $260million worth of contracts, other than bus companies, printing company etc, who else -.- tp considered meh.
MOE bought 80,000 tickets of the 100,000 sold so far. haha. I thought revenue like this should come from tourists? Left hand pay the right hand.

In a stunning report in April this year by the Jamaica Observer, it was revealed that a Singapore company is currently helping to repair Jamaica’s run-down national stadium in exchange for the country’s support for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to be held in Singapore later in August.
“Under a barter agreement between Jamaica and Singapore last December, it was agreed that Intersurface Pte Limited, the Singaporean company that installed the track for the Youth Olympics set for August 14-26 next year in that country, would undertake the work at Jamaica’s National Stadium.”
The Singapore company was chosen over four other companies including German giants Regupol and the United States’ Mondo Incorporated because it offered a “better” deal to the Jamaica government.
“The Singapore company had to be used because we were getting a better deal and the Singapore entity that is picking up the cost wanted a Singapore company to be used,” a government official told the Observer in December.
It was not revealed what the terms of the Singaporee offer are. However in exchange, Jamaica has to agree to help Singapore “market” the YOG which may include sending its athletes to attend the event.
The news was not reported in the Singapore media desperate to whip up a frenzy among the island state’s apathetic citizenry about the event which has attracted little international media attention so far.
It was reported in the papers today that the PAP has splurged an astronomical $387 million dollars on the YOG which has surpassed three times its original estimates. No reasons were given for the discrepancy in the initial estimates and amount spent.
There is no opposition in the Singapore Parliament to hold the PAP accountable to its spending of taxpayers’ monies. As for improverished Jamaica, it must be celebrating the unexpected “windfall” from the YOG held on the other side of the globe.

Jamaican track sensation Usain Bolt will be coming to town as YOG ambassador. Good deal in exchange for a repair job, I must say.
woah, so this is how they cook up those millions of contracts.
The orginal budget for YOG was $104m. It has ballooned to $387m, that means exceeding budget by 372%. Haha it's a miracle he's still in office. In private corporations, he would have been called up and barraged,

We already have GST increases to help the poor.
Why need to increase budget?
What happened to our "Cheaper, Better, Faster" motto?
