When public holiday comes, like our national day, I want to join in the celebration, even if I might not be at the parade. I do not want this thought to be killed and think of, hey maybe we should head to malaysia.
I am born and and I belong here. I do not wish to have anyone or anything to take away the pride that I am a Singaporean. I do not want to dread being a Singaporean.
What make you proud of as a singaporean?
how can anyone take away that pride?
I am proud of Singapore because I can show my foreign visitors that you can feel like India when you are in serangoon, china when in china town, or may be geylang, a malaysian kampung when in geylang serai, and like in any cospomolitan city when you are in orchard road.
I am proud to show people the many different places of worships, especially a chinese temple, a church, and an indian temple side by side.
why are you so concerned about the bangladeshi in Singapore? why are you worried about being killed?

Singapore will remain a multi racial country with different ethnicities. Nationhood is defined by people with common identity to the land, the country, the constitutions, not defined by people who speak the same language or have the same religion. All these are the characteristics of a nation. But it will take the population to mature and bond together and unmistakenly called themselved Singaporean.
Multi racial society is not a characteristics of all nations! go to France and see you get by without speaking french, or japan.
Maturity comes not by forcing a single language on all, but by all learning to accept the diversity of the different races.

Perharps in the past but i think that is changing.....i just don't see that will continue. In France you have alot of North African french of the colonial past, and Eastern Europeans have migrated there, Vietnames...as well.
Japan and Korea while the country is very much monolitics but their citizens have move out so diversity is only a matter of time to ensure vitality of the countries....of course you have remote regime Inner mogol, North Korea, Bhutan.....
Maturity does not come by forcing but certainly not thru social engineering of importing a particular group of people to influence nation direction either.
It has to be borned out from being in a "GROUP that derived the same conclusion of the same destiny".... than you have a Nation....
There is not necessary to look outside and say that is who we are.....but look inward and said this is who we are.
see what i am saying.............
i also dunno what you are saying, but as an immigrant here, i would say Singaporeans need to look at themselve before taking on immigrants who are here to help your society and economy. We expect singaporean to be warmth and open arms people, not people who keep on cursing and blaming one that come and help them, after all, your govt welcome us, and you vote for that GOVT!!! so I do not understand, it is so contradicting, first you vote a govt who is so liberal in their approach toward embracing foreigners, especially the talented ones, then when we arrive here, you start to curse at us, why not you go ask your own govt and also ask yourself why you people are not willing to produce more of yourself???
You got to be fair to us..Papers in China, taiwan, hongkong, mynamar, india, etc etc are advertising everyday for people to come to singapore "welcome to Singapore" "Be part of the our growth"

The north african in France were probably still keen to serve their colonial master, same as the vietnamese, but how much are they prepared to give up their own culture, it is yet to be seen. Question is whether the Frenchie were prepared to accept the vietnamese culture as part of the French culture. many asian origin speaking french and eat baguette don't make french a multi cultural society. Will muslim women be allowed to wear what they like in schools?
In France, Korea, Japan....many people have international outlook, but their culture, tradition, is part of their society, their country, they are not multi cultural society like singapore.
Chinese, Malay and Indian will continue to retain our cultures, tradition, heritage for many years to come. If there is a pre concieved idea on what singaporean is, Singaporean should know.
