it become like thailand, we will have white shirt for supporters of PAP and all other colors for opposition supporters.
Before any credible person in Singapore become opposition, PAP would have contacted him or her to offer high position in the govt. Even old LKY can personally makes a call to him and ask him to think carefully before undertaking the opposition seat. Most turned around and be loyal to PAP. Only those that are not credible, good for nothing, cannot even move the ground with a big M, PAP will not disturb them and allow them to join opposition.
I hope all is clear

if e coup gets crushed, it'll only strengthen e govt.
Not only tat, staging a coup meant economy is disrupted. So who gets blamed?

Opposition is still weak in Singapore. They dun have enough potential candidates to contest in all the areas.
It's expensive to contest too.

no wonder singapore is a one party country
Originally posted by Rooney9:be it a single ward or GRC, why dun they compete when the elections come? otherwise on earth are citizens and PR to cast their ballots at? I believe they are people who never ever gets to vote on election day, because its a walk-over at their ward. why? because the opposition did not contest at the ward?
no wonder there is a saying, there are no opposition parties and there is only a single party in Singapore. is it because the opposition cant find enough candidates to challenge the incumbent or cant pay for the deposit?
It would be better if they can form a coalition of sorts. I am not sure if I will ever get to see opposition parties winning at least 5-10 seats in parliament in my lifetime, never mind forming the government. even with 10-15 seats, they cant even oppose or obstruct laws passed by PAP in the parliament. that is why, technically speaking, PAP can pass any laws they want in parliament due to their overwhelming majority in parliament.
It is because the opposition knows that there are not enough people who will vote for them in each constituency and they know that many opposition candidates will even lose their deposits.
In other words, the people are not yet pushed to the point where they will definitely vote for the opposition.

now the locals are so unhappy with the influx of FT. if not now, then when?

Indeed, it is a good time for the opposition if the opposition can come up with good and workable proposals and they can convince the people with these proposals, not by election slogans, raising the issues only without any workable solutions and arouse emotions. People want to see workable solutions to the issues raised and they must be convinced that the opposition can implement these policies effectively.
Hence, it is important that the opposition needs not only recruit people with oratory skills but also people with professional knowledge and expertise eg economists, lawyers, bankers, engineers, successful businessmen, teachers, lecturers, professors, retired high ranking officers, former high ranking civil servants and so on.

Good plan. And then with these speakers they can get media coverage, CNA, interviews in the ST etc., and spread their message. Oh, wait..

Good idea, opposition can get top intellectual peoples, be vocals with good oratory skills...but before the election days, most would be inside ISD or being charged for defamation, so how? you got to understand singapore oppressive politics ya

so you want ppl to starve to death before realising the damage?
It's not going to rebuild everything built from e past once there's a coup. It takes years or even forever to rebuild it.

it's so easy to use FTs to strike unhappiness.
But w/o them, you wun even be able to have enough SBS buses to take you to school, to work and to play.
W/o them, do you think u've ppl collecting plates for you at food courts? Like tis DIY and dun kpkb.
Want service yet cheap but not willing to spend a compromise on anything is the biggest joke ever.

Eh..
If you mean snatching Singaporeans from jobs in higher wage industries, then let me throw 1 word to you: meritocracy
You telling me you want to follow M'sia see by certain group of ppl only? Seriously I know some ppl take opportunity to use lower wages as excuse, but it's also e cause of Singaporeans want cheap and want fresh.
Dun tell me cost of living. If u can shoot, then explain me why pte developers still so willing to bid high high for land?
Maybe my son can see PAP 100th year as a governing party.
Foreign workers take over the jobs of dish washers, cleaners ?
Indeed, it is true as these foreign workers (usually 20 - 35 years old) are cheaper, younger and can work work faster.
If these foreign workers left, the dish washers, cleaners will go back to those Singaporeans in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Will Singaporeans then complain these workers are so slow, inefficient, more expensive, lazy ? We cannot blame these older workers to work slow as they are growing in age but the people will complain that these older workers cannot clean the tables and clear the trays etc quickly as these people are not patient especially during rush lunch hours.
So how ?
well, i think we are more better in using our own peoples, peoples who are close to us, peoples who built our economy as it is today, people who are our true singaporean mothers and fathers.
the problem with singaporeans, who are mostly influenced by our govt toward money and economy, lack the social aspect of life..at the end of the day, most are nothing but working robots lacking passion and the real essence of life.
