After PAP won general elections in May 2006 with 66.6% votes, they increased GST to 7% 6 months later.
Will PAP increase GST after they win next elections?
Now we are in the pre election period where PAP is steadily increasing the pro-PAP propaganda in state media day by day.
After the world cup, this propaganda will intensify and the state media will build up the pro PAP atmosphere until the general elections hits.
So of course, no one will be talking about such things as increase GST for now.
But will PAP increase GST after they win next elections?

Lol! They have been reducing ERP fares in school holiday probably to encourage people to shop in Orchard / CBD. This is not something pre-election strategy lor.
Decrease bus fare? Sorry, if you take direct bus, it is a fare hike.
We dunno the future so hard to say.
You want to wait after election to know ah? I tell you now, they will increase regardless before or after election. They have to increase if not their hearts are not at ease, got money don't want to earn meh.

The future is hard to say, but statisticians use past figures to attempt to predict the future.
The fact remains that prices increase after the past few elections, which is a standard operating procedure by the PAP, given that it knows it has up to 5 years to make Singaporeans forget about those increases.
There are some rumours that the final target for GST is 15%, with the next target to hit 10%.
Someone has to pay for those crazy astronomical salaries, and they rely on my fellow countrymen stupid enough to continue voting for them due to unfounded fears/brainwash/etc.
oooh boy, the trap is open.... beware of what u get cause u goin to pay back double.
If decreasing the ERP during the holiday is to increase the shopping, then they should do it more often.
But, would that not be increasing the jam instead ? Then what is the logic ?
If they want to make people song, they can do anything with any "legal" reason.
They also start to reduce the number of PR approval after some unhappiness. (This is just in the paper, but, there are no figures or facts to show as usual)
And one millionster apologised in public for wrong interpretation.
Too many strange things have happened in the last few months.
The sign is already very clear when you see more millionsters roaming the news during the weekend.
When all the wayang is over, no more goodies.
Increasing GST is to help the poor.
If they raise GST after the elections, it means that there are more poor people to help.
We are a kind and caring society.
Really.
Increase pub bills.
Increase radio and tv licence bills.
Increase town council bills.
Increase conversative charges bills.
They can just increase income tax, need not increase GST, you will still feel the pinch.
They will increase GST definately.
Just imagine per day, how much money collect thru gst?

Not so. Not all working people pay income tax.
I remember they say 10% GST by 2012 few years back before recession.
After the 1st payout, Singapore slipped into recession.
That is the reason why we still receive GST credits yearly without any increase in GST.
Earlier intention was to increase 1% every year till 2012's targeted 10% GST.
Wonder if they will honour the GST increase by 2012?

When they said economy good, they will increase.

income tax will only continue to fall. The govt has realized that direct taxes is no longer as powerful as indirect taxes.
With direct taxes, it's hard to tax people such as hawkers and businessmen, where income earned is not as visible.
With indirect taxes, it's much easier as people who earn more tend to spend more.
Keeping income taxes low also will help to boost the competitiveness of Singapore as a global hub. Foreigners who come here to work care more about the direct taxes than indirect, IMO.
Not to mention, GST hits everyone, including the living, the dead (incense paper), and the pets (pet food)
PAP will lose in the next election and my party will win and I will become singapore next PM.
So there won't be any gst increase
