The budget debates, especially during the Committee of Supply stage, is not about money! MPs do not seem interested in how the govt spend the money. Of course, PAP MPs have trust in the govt in spending its money. But it is still their responsibility to approve it and so they should be interested.
During the debates, instead of commenting on how the money is spent, they discuss mostly about policies. Usually, an MP raised a motion to cut the budget by $10, then he discussed about policy matter. The minister also took the opportunity to announce new policies.
I believe they abuse the procedure to discuss other matters. This is how the 80+ elites do thing improperly and openly. I’ve commented this in another forum but they still do the same way. They don’t think they were wrong or they don’t know how to change.

So, u mean MP should question the quantity and quality of toilet papers used in each of the ministries la ? then this is good MP la ? I see, see.
Have u ever read the thick book of the budget before ? All detailed expenditure and amount are listed and broken down in it. Unless u want the MPs to do an audit to which the MPs do not have the expertise or time. Unless someone who has the knowledge and raise the alarm that there is something wrong with it, then the MPs can raise them in the parliament.
