He was one of our founding fathers.
Say what you like about the party he was in, it was a good one while he was there. I don't know what he thought of the present incarnation.
He will be missed.
RIP Mr Goh.
A man of great vision. A sad day for Singapore.
To me, he is our founding grandfather liao.
He was good in economic which translate into industrialisation for Singapore. LKY is indeed blessed with luck to have him around during the formation. If opposition party have such a person around, PAP will be shaking their hands.
I heard he likes to flirt around...with ang mo gals, maybe, that was his weak point.
Mr Goh KS is indeed one of the greatest pioneers of the independent and prosperous Singapore, the early jurong industrial estate, the NS and the built- up of the SAF....were all the contribution of this man.
it was already a loss for singapore the day he decided to withdraw from singapore politics.
RIP, Mr Goh
RIP Goh Keng Swee. Remember him forever.
Goh Keng Swee is a man of foresight.
His footprints can be found in many of Singapore's govt instituition.
Created EDB - in charge of Singapore's rapid industrialization in the early years
GIC is another of his brain child
Set up SAF with the help of Israelis
RIP
I'm reading Man In White now... looking at his history :(
FORMER Deputy Prime Minister and Singapore's economic architect Goh Keng Swee died early on Friday morning after a long illness. He was 91.
Dr Goh Keng Swee will be remembered, above all, for his role as one of the prime architects of Singapore's economic success. Many of the key milestones in Singapore's journey from Third World backwater to globalised, First-World city can be found in the story of his life, vividly portrayed in the new book Goh Keng Swee: A Portrait by his daughter-in-law Tan Siok Sun.
The son of a rich Malacca family - his father, Goh Leng Inn, was a manager of a rubber plantation, his mother was from the family that produced famous Malaysian politicians Tun Tan Cheng Lock and his son Tun Tan Siew Sin - Dr Goh joined the Department of Social Welfare in 1946, and was active in post-war administration.
He resigned from the civil service in 1959 to enter politics and was elected as the People's Action Party representative for Kreta Ayer, his constituency until he retired in 1984.
He had one word to describe the state of the economy when he became finance minister in 1959: 'Wretched'.
Upon Singapore's independence in 1965, Dr Goh also became Minister for the Interior and Defence until 1967, assuming responsibilities for strengthening Singapore's military and domestic security capabilities. A key policy was the creation of National Service, a mandatory conscription system for able-bodied young males.
In 1979, Dr Goh moved on to the Education Ministry, where his Goh Report greatly influenced the development of Singapore's education system, introducing key policies such as streaming and religious education.
Dr Goh retired as Deputy Prime Minister in December 1984, due to personal reasons.

Besides his services and expertise were not retained in the govt after 1984.
But i think now that there is social studies in the the curriculumn, some of the younger students may know...

its is not that we dun want to study him, but in our humanity history or social study we read very less of him and his achievement, maybe our govt or LKY had make it a way for the youngster to forget about him, thereby taking all the credits, we are taught that LKY single handled found and built singapore...full stop.
I hope you understand and dun said that we the young ones dunno it, we are simply censored.
Dr Goh is a pioneer in economic thought. He does not accept the then popular economic school of thought ie Keynesian economics. Instead, he modified them to suit Singapore's economic growth. Furthermore, he is the pioneer to advocate economic growth through exports and attract MNCs and foreign investments and this model is adopted by many developing countries now.
Dr is the engine of growth ie he drives Singapore economy with his great foresight and deep understanding of the economy and the world economy.
It is sad that Singapore no longers has a person as capable as him and now no one can take his role and drives Singapore economy with great foresight.
Rest in Peace Dr Goh and you are deeply missed by all of Singaporeans.
A great man, my respect for him. Condolences to his family.
Contributed to Singapore but not included where credit is given. One man claims all credit to himself.
Mr Goh was on wheelchair for a long time and looked senile and helpless. My heart sank when I saw him in that state.
Following this news, we will start to see drama and sweet words from that party.
Has Great old man Lee left for his trip yet?
Poor man, he only get crocodile's tears from people who only remembers and speak well of him when he's dead.
Sorry to say, but I'm not able to become a hypocrite like many in here.
I don't know him personally and I won't claimed to know what he did, that's the truth and that's what I'll say.
Treasure people when they are alive and not honour them with your gold and golden words when they are no longer alive to hear them.
He have contributed to the progress of Singapore and its people.
So, he have earned the true respect of the people.
It is not like some one who is still hogging on the power and travelling on the expense of the people.
Time for the rest of the millionsters to put on a show even though they dun even know him in person.

Tell me, which able working Singaporeans failed to contribute to the progress of Singapore and its people?
Make sure you all hold true to what you believed and don't become a green-eyed monster ok?
These nobled people who disliked PAP and LKY are probably the same bunch of hypocrites who disliked Bill Gates and continued to use Microsoft products.
Soon it will be Sim Wong Hoo's turn, am I right?
RIP
Goh Keng Swee is the man with the sweat and blood. Noone can compare that effort he put in. We have leaders that provide us with the vision but he certainty has both.
aiyah............his death is like a tree losing a leaf.........................
if LKY conk off, that'll be something to shout about.................scream about, i mean..............
i'll be screaming and shouting.............for joy..............and laugh like a mad man for a week..............!
recently he just went to/visit china and later japan eat air
let me paste what a poster in Temasek Review has written:
Sianz:
Good riddance! He’s the guy who forced our fathers, sons and brothers to become slave soldiers with little recourse to justice while paying them pittance allowances of $90/mth. Until recently, if you die in NS or reservist your family only gets a freaking cheque for $10K.
He is also responsible for all the shenanigans in our education system — Pri 3 streaming, Pri 4 streaming, monoligualism and Pri 7 & Pri 8 for “less intelligent” people, funneling and fast-tracking late bloomers into VITB/ITE with no questions asked. He basically started all the streaming, separation by tests & IQ, and caused the entire education system to degenerate into the kiasu-ism, elitism, expensive tuition, pressure cooker that you see today.
He’s also part of the gang that came up with eugenics for Singapore with the Graduate Mother Scheme, stopping or reducing financial help to poor people, keeping tight political quotas on those who want to study law or medicine in NUS (40 per year), while pushing for mass entry into engineering and polytechnics. All because his grand economic plan depended on supplying cheap, low cost and uncomplaining technicians & engineers to greedy Ang Mo & Nipponese MNCs. Plus giving all these Ang Moh and Nips freebies, tax breaks, rebates and incentives from the blood taxes of Singaporeans.
The only thing he did right was to retire in 1984, unlike some old fcukers still masturbating to their monthly million-dollar checks. Be it as it may, GKS retired with full pension and full A-Class medical treatments — Singaporean taxpayers have already paid enough for his long 26-year retirement and “long illness”. Although he retired before the era of multi-million dollar salaries, his pension would still be at least $15,000 a month — enough for Europe holidays, Bahamas, Taihiti, Alaskan cruise, Mediterranean cruise every year. And remember he and his wife do not have to come up with even a single cent for A-Class ward medical treatments.

well but sadly, Spore has not evolved from that strategy meant for developing countries. We are still hunting ground for cheap labour. While countries like Japan, Korea and Taiwan have developed their own brands the past 20-30 years, we are still dependent on the presence of MNCs.
Age of 91 eh ? If we use that a benchmark, I say LKY will kick the bucket in 4 years time.
An obituary on Goh Keng Swee by today.
My deepest respect to a great man, though i have never seen him.
