Do you think Grassroots Leaders are nationalistic?

Hi, I like to discuss with fellow netizens if GRLs are still nationalistic, especially with the influx of foreigners.

I wonder if you know your grassroot leaders or not?

Some people don't even know who their MP is, let alone grassroots leaders.

Yes, only when it comes to buffet, dinner and dance, party celebration, prize presentation and long service awards, they will be very nationalistic, other than that, they do nothing, and in return, they get priorty to buy property first, their childrens can enter school of their wish, any summons or delay in paying govt bills can also be settle and also, more easier to access to training, education funds and govt agencies with good services. Foreigners joining in, stand a better chance of getting citizenship, provide more voices for their interest and of course enjoy retreat trip and free lunch with local once awhile.

If the Grassroots Leaders volunteered their own time for their RC, how can it be possible to doubt their patriotism. What have this got to do with the influx of foreigners?

Let me rephrase my question: Do you think GRLs like to integrate residents with foreigners, or are they forced to do so?
I believe GROs should have a quota on PRs taking leadership positions, up to a maximum %.

In my opinion, this grassroot organisation are just extension of govt's reach into ppl's normal daily life.Thats y when MP comes to a ward these ppl will behave as though emperor arriving. of course. we know that most of these mps are just small fries in govt with no substantial power.
wait till the REAL emperor comes these grassroot leader will even be more 'enthu' in pleasing the VIP..

Straightstick:Please admit that you have not serve with any grassroots organisation or leaders before. Grassroot organisation strive for the well-being of the people in their care. PA is not a grassroots organisation as it was created under the auspices of the government.

To further complicate matters, the Chairpersons of RCs are sometimes PAP members who sit on many boards. A PAP branch secretary may be the Vice Chairman of a Community Club Management Committee and a RC Chairman at the same time.
As an example, a YPAP member and moderator of the YPAP Facebook Network Mr Fong Yoong Keong, is the Vice Chairman of Eunos Community Club Management Committee and Assistant Secretary of Eunos Zone “3″ RC at the same time.
The RCs and CCs give the PAP a powerful grassroots machinery on the ground which enables it to steamroll over the opposition election after election.
Since the PA is a statutory board funded entirely by taxpayers’ monies, Singaporeans have been unwittingly “sponsoring” the PAP’s partisan activities over the last four decades.
In fact, the PAP is found not only in grassroots organizations, but everywhere in Singapore as well from the mainstream media, trade unions, police, Internal Security Department, state-linked companies and what not – you name it, you have it!
Lee once boasted unashamedly about the PAP’s complete dominance in Singapore during an interview with its mouthpiece Petir in 1982:
“I make no apologies that the PAP is the (Singapore) Government and the Government is the PAP.”

I can tell you that you are a sick man who cannot appreciate the truth. Not all grassroots leaders are self-serving like the PAP smear gang. The alternative media is just out to damage Singapore's image and not help the common people of Singapore. Who knows about the grassroots leader in Tiong Bahru who helps out the poorer shopkeepers in the market out of his own pocket for 30 years? Many of the shopkeepers still owes him the money loaned yet he is dead for nearly a decade. Neither the PAP smear gang nor the alternative parties could get his loyalty for he only serves the common people. Who knows about the young man in the east who coaches poor students in their studies for free till the wee hours of the morning? He keeps organising events for donations to his poor charges via RC activities. -

How many grassroot members out there are as noble as the 2 guys you mentioned? Well, let me share with you what are the things I observed about these people.
Whenever an MP is coming, these people will walk around informing everybody about the arrival of the VIPs. Many residents are not willing to join this PLP activity. These grassroot members will then drag them along telling them that there'll be free food, entertainment etc. The obvious intention is that they need to boost the numbers so that the MP will feel welcomed.
When the MP arrives, this grassroot leader will follow the MP around like a dog. Along the way they will say a lot of stuffs to bootlick the MP. What's their reason for doing that? Trying to lure the mp into thinking that the ppl are leading a good life so that he/she can have a peace of mind?
Not only that. In times of election these ppl would go around broadcasting for the ruling party. The facilities would be fully utilised for political reason. You think this is done for the interest of the ppl?
Remember, you claimed tat your idol is the common ppl and you dun support any action by any political groups in their power struggle..
