Mah Bow Tan: We are a “land-locked” city state
Just when Singaporeans are crying out for help to bring down the sky-rocketing prices of HDB flats, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan talked about Singapore’s “biodiversity” instead.
During a speech made at the launch of the “Forest of Giants” yesterday, Mr Mah claimed that Singapore has been “successful” in balancing development and conservation.
”…we are a very small city state, land locked; development is important for us, but at the same time, we have to make every effort to conserve what we have. So, this balance, this tussle between development and conservation is even more acute in a city state like ours,” he was quoted as saying in Channel News Asia.
It is not known how relevant the topic of conservation is to ordinary Singaporeans who are increasingly priced out of the public housing market.
Mr Mah has come under fire lately from disgruntled home buyers for failing to control HDB flat prices which hit a record high last year though he admitted that he was caught “off-guard” by the phenomenal growth in prices.
Despite evidence showing otherwise, Mr Mah is adamant that HDB flats remain affordable to Singaporeans and castigated home buyers for being “fussy” and having “unrealistic” expectations.
Mr Mah’s nonchalant demeanour appeared to suggest that he remained unfazed by the rising chorus of discontent from the ground.
He is paid about $2 million dollars a year, or more than 4 times the annual salary of U.S. President Barack Obama and is expected to get another 8.8 percent pay hike this year.
With the property market booming and “good times” returning, Mr Mah can well afford to dwell on “biodiversity” and “conservation for now.
well, he tried to lie again..

Incredible. Millionaire ministers who don't even have a grasp of basic geography.
Perhaps Singapore feels landlocked to him because he's too short to see the coastline.

not really.. coz he's living in his ivory tower so that should give him a good view..
if he's tall enough to see over the balcony wall
maybe it's his extreme myopia?
or he's actually starting to believe his own BS?
Now ..... this guy don't even lived in Singapore......
maybe the guy just.. mabok?
looking how short he is, it'll take like.. what? a sip to make him mabok?
and i guess he must be a heavy user considering the weight of the lies which he must shoulder for the MIW... seeking solace by hitting the sauce is understandable
I suppose that when he said 'landlocked', he meant 'lack of available land'.
But of course, anyone with a basic grasp of physical geography knows that 'landlocked' actually stands for 'surrounded entirely by land'.
I guess this is a good example of trying to sound cheem but failing hilariously.
Land-locked is not even cheem in the first place.

Which makes the attempt an even bigger PHAIL.
okay okay.. maybe he's just stupid
Does he know that he's become the butt of the jokes yet?
Maybe cos he was at launch of "Forest of Giants" and he became aware of the irony and became nervous.
If that's the case, I forgive him.

maybe the Giants tossed him around in a Dwarf Throwing contest and he landed on his head?
but then, if he landed on his head, there'd be no difference...
maybe he thinks that lock your thread means no more thread
lock your land means no more land lor
he is saying singapore very small no land to play with lah
u all must be understanding
Is time to "landlock" himself out of the minister role.
His PR exercise in trying to win back supporters always goes awry every time he says something.
Time to do this,
Reclaim land all the way to Pedra Branca.
u mean also all the way to Batam and Bintan....
okay okay... we should not tekan him so much for a slip of the (mabok) tongue..
for a slip of the tongue is no fault of the mind...
but then, looks like he doesn't have a mind of his own anyway, being the chief liar for the MIW
What next?
Singapore is the 8th wonder of the world?
