Must be due to choosy Singaporeans according to a NTU professor. There are vacancies for more than 6 months and these choosy Singaporeans do not take the job and create problems for our great govt. They should welcome large influx of of young able foreigners and compete with them directly for jobs.

Men tend to retire in their 50s; getting them to continue working will boost workforce
THE labour movement aims to unravel the mystery of why a relatively large number of men tend to quit the workforce in their 50s, instead of staying on until the retirement age of 62.
Official manpower figures show that the labour force participation rate for men dips after age 50.
There is no data on the reasons behind this dip, a trend which the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) intends to study in its bid to get more older men, as well as women, to work longer.
But NTUC deputy secretary-general Heng Chee How suggested on Monday that 'some men may want to take it slow after taking out their CPF at 55'.
Hence, the NTUC will start a programme in three months' time to encourage both men and women in their 50s to work beyond 62, said Mr Heng at a seminar on re-employment issues.
The 'Back to Work for Active Agers' programme will be rolled out once the NTUC determines the factors driving people out of the workforce; and works out which industries have the largest exodus of older workers.

I really pity Singapore old peoples, must work until die...
,In Taiwan, by 55yo all retired liao, and in China, there is a so called 45/50 rules, for women by 45yo, they should learn to do cooking or making kueh or pao and for men at 50yo, they should learn about doing business, how to go about doing business with what they know best. For example, being a delivery man for most of his career, he has that experience and know how, so he will be taught on how to run a business of his own, since he knows the in and out of the road and neighbourhood so well, get contract from Fed or DHL and do the delivery on their behalf, be his own boss. Leave those wages job to youngsters.
In taiwan, if you are 62yo and still working, the young ones will beat you up for taking their job. But here in singapore, instead of training people to do business, they ask them go back to work...so poor thing

But teaching and supporting older people to do business, be is small or big business, they created jobs for the youngsters, that is how China progressed so fast, but ours is different, ask people to work until die...

it is the fact that nobody wants them when they are in the 50s. even if the employers do want them, but giving them a thousand plus salary, if it is me, i would prefer stay at home.

the key words from heng chee how were "most men tend to take it slow after 55". Hahahaha. So expect the drawdown age to increase so that productivity may increase and hence allay the concerns of that labour report.

that's is the problem, people dun see their worthy, if you are down to thousand as pay, it is better than getting none, Singaporeans old uncles just want face, they dun want to be guards, doormen, gardeners, hotel room cleaners, sweepers etc etc, to them if some relatives or friends see them, they feels very shameful. That is the problem most never want to take up lower job, which actually fit their age to take up, so, what to do, get the foreigner in lah. -
