SG is seriouly thinking to build a nuke power plant---under sea!!
This was disclosed by former Chief Defence Scientist, Professor Lui Pao Chuen
and currently MFA advisor in ytd meeting..
Ytd meeting in NTU was held by NTU and Korean Science Institute.
Prof Lui said the location under consideration is--
"20 km south of main island, 10 km from Jurong Is and 15 km fr
Sentosa." He did not pin point the exact location.
It is believe he refers to the sea between Pulau Senang & Semakau.
www. onemap.sg
2.One NTU Professor also said 20 km is a safety range set by France and
Swiss.Sea water can prevent the spread of radioactive materials
in case of leakage and accidents.
3. For every decision, we have to balance benefits, costs and risks.

This is good news!
Hmm... beween Semakau and Senang ie Hantu....
Woooo~~~
Will the South Western property price goes down?
If we are really going to build it there's absolutely NO SENSE in locating it underwater.

Why? Do you want to built it above ground, such that the radiation spreads quickly (Usually needs a radius space of 50km, which even located Nuclear plant at the Pedra Branca also no use) when there is an accident (Touchwood), such as one in Ukraine in 1986 and killing half of the SG populations?

they could build first a city underwater

ya great news.... they will tell u that our electricity rates is going to go up again cos oil price increases again....
issit near my house???
Precursor for nuclear weapons.

I am no expert in such expertise, but definetely fear of such things from happening. But I think given from the facts which North Korea tested their nuclear bombs underground and without affecting much to their country, and other nuclear states who tested more frequently on underground, because atmospheric test is more dangerous and harmful to Earth which is why subsequently got treaty to ban it, it seemed like underground / underwater can acts as a natural barrier to stop the radiation to spread that quickly.
PS: It is not like that underground atomic testing brings no harm at all, but i think it is lesser of the evil, which such acts was later at 1996, banned with a Comprehensive Ban Treaty (Or similar name), compared to a Partial Ban treaty in 1965 (Or so?)
It is a pre-cursor for laser weapon capability
they are also planning for a fusion power plant to power all the laser weapons

I don't think we can compare nuclear testing to the Chernobyl disaster, since the latter is an accident.
The article said that seawater can prevent the spread of radioactive materials in case of leakage and accidents but what about the sealife in the area? What if these sealife containmed by radiation were caught by fishermen from other countries? Anyway I'm not an expert on the lifespan of radiation.
I believe it's too dangerous for the world smallest country.

as ris low put it: BOOM!
then we might have godzilla crawling up the marina area, wrecking havoc in the CBD. =D

Merlion..
By right nuclear energy is deemed to be more energy efficient.. it can provide much more efficiency then burning fossil fuels.. and the waste products are much more environmentally friendly provided theres no hiccups :)
If thats the case, it will cost less to generate electircity and theoretically pay lesser:)
i think sg govt might be jumping the gun.....there are communication with neighbouring countries on this issued as well....it is strictly not a SG only issued similarly if our neighbours want to put a nuke plant right off SG..........Sg would required to be consulted.
also i just want to make an observation that the way our govt look at problems and simply made a existing solution to plug the problems is short sighted....energy is going to be an issued so this might sound like a galaxy away....but i just think that maybe SG govt should be researching on new energy rather than applying old and dangerous technology.........it maybe a generation away but it is not impossible.....leadership is about leading a direction not creating problems.....
If Sg built a nuke power plant, where is the money to built from?
Answer : Sporean.
Who will be happy? Govt. Cos more money come into their pocket.
Originally posted by BJK:It is a foolish idea as Sg is a thiny island and the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages. Anyway, it takes 20 to 30 years to build one nuclear power plant according to source from “timefor change org” quote: “The time frame needed for formalities, planning and building of a new nuclear power generation plant is in the range of 20 to 30 years in the western democracies. In other words: It is an illusion to build new nuclear power plants in a short time”.
right so by the time we built the nuke plant the technology would be "OLD Technology"
oh, nuclear plant undersea,..wow! next time maybe got bigger abalone, prawns, crabs and bigger shark fins to eat liao...good for seafood lover like me.
I concur!!
yea..put underwater..den skali leak, kena the fish..fish mutate, fisherman fish out not knowing..bring back home and sell
voila!! one day we wake up with super powers

The agenda of a Taiwanese 'hum' in this SgForum was clearly stated by itself - ‘to make sure the audience moving/divert toward you’ (*1)
Is it any surprise to see that the efforts of the resident CBM here is obviously to sabotage the thread with its flippant and irrelevant replies, and get all attempts at serious discussion to be driven off track - simply to bring attention to its own stupidity ?
With its brain stuck between its ‘Labia Majora’ and ‘Labia Minora’ - and a brain no bigger then the size of its ‘clitoris’ - all it can do is to flap in rapturous idiocy to attract attention to itself as an 'Attention Seeking Whore' fitted with a world class CBM.
