Overseas YOG delegate accused of inviting Sg female volunteers to hotel
Singapore’s preparations for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) have got off to an “exciting” start during a dinner function last week attended by some 60 overseas delegates.
According to a Lianhe Wanbao report, at least three Singapore female volunteers had lodged complaints of being sexually harrassed by the delegates.
One of them, a 21 year old student described her experience to the media:
“A 60 year old delegate from a Middle East country grabbed me suddenly and asked me if I want to go to his hotel. Another asked me directly where he can find young women to bed,” she said.
Even a Shin Min reporter was not spared. She accused a delegate of using his leg to stroke hers.
With 150 days to go to the event, Minister of Community, Youth and Sports Dr Vivian Balakrishnan had expressed concerns that the “YOG fever” had yet to sweep across Singapore.
He called on Singaporeans last week “rally” behind the YOG in order to make it a success.
Dr Vivian stressed that the “goal” is now to recreate the buzz:
“We’ve got to find ways for the hawkers, for the taxi drivers, the bus drivers, the small and medium enterprises to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to showcase their products and their services to the world,” he added.
With the overseas YOG delegates already adding the “buzz” before the event, Dr Vivian should be able to heave a sigh of relief.

With this news article, I'm sure there would be a YOG fever, with a wrong emphasis. I am incredulous when I read the article in the papers today, I would have thought those delegates understood that they represented their countries.

And they should be reported to police if they dont stop.
Dont let those people think they are bigshots who can throw around their weight and take advantage of young women.
Dont make them have wrong idea and think Singapore is a weak country.

i dunno what's worse, the perverts in the middle east..or the people who use the actions of the perverts in the middle east to further their political agenda...

the enemy of your enemy may be your worst enemy...the enemy of the Soviets were the Taliban... and look at the US whose enemy was the Soviets.. helped the Taliban thinking they were "friends" and that their enemy's enemy should be their friend..
it never works.. alliances held together because of common emnity ultimately fall apart causing emnity between the allies-in-convenience...
the same happened in WWII with the free world and Uncle Joe.. whose common enemy was the Axis

Had to admit that is true. And just like that Aturdie who cannot understand why the common man in the streets will never support CSJ. -
Then again, these kinds of scandalous news will help generate more buzz and awareness that there is such a thing as YOG and that it is being held in Singapore this year.
Better than any advertising campaign.

The strong and powerful taking advantage of the young and innocent.
Old men lusting and propositing young girls, young enough to be their daughters or grandchildren.
Men of high social status disregarding social norms and decency of the host country and its people, showing contempt, degrading the host nation and its people.
Men who should live up to the spirit of the Olympic disregarding official decorum and the spirit of the YOG.
Men who are ambassadors of their countries disgracing their respective countries of Europe, Middle-East and Africa.
No more Youth Olympic! We can live without their distraction.
If we going to host YOG again, I propose that the cabinet Ministers set good example and line their daughters, nieces, granddaughters as volunteers.

I think sir, the fact your name doesn’t have any ‘S’ initials is causing you problems.
The most recent issue for you is that you gave 10 million dollars of Singaporeans’ money to intergrate foreigners and now you’re coming to Singaporeans and asking them to “rally behind” to make your boring Youth Olympics.
Why don’t you ask those foreigners who you used our money to intergrate to rally behind it instead? I’m sure there are enough of them, since 34% or 1/3 of the population are made out of foreigners.
So sir, that’s why I’m worried that you’re going to run into some problems in the near future like our ex-President C N Devan Nair.
Because like yourself, he doesn’t have an S initial in his name. He and you might be the only 2 Indian PAP “leaders” who don’t have an S initial.
