Originally posted by PRP:The budget debates, especially during the Committee of Supply stage, is not about money! MPs do not seem interested in how the govt spend the money. Of course, PAP MPs have trust in the govt in spending its money. But it is still their responsibility to approve it and so they should be interested.
During the debates, instead of commenting on how the money is spent, they discuss mostly about policies. Usually, an MP raised a motion to cut the budget by $10, then he discussed about policy matter. The minister also took the opportunity to announce new policies.
I believe they misuse the procedure to discuss other matters. This is how the 80+ elites do thing improperly. I’ve commented this in another forum but they still do the same way. They don’t think they were wrong or they don’t know how to change.
It is an honest error, OK?
I don't know whether other parliaments do similarly like they do.
Who should be responsible for the error?
1. The speaker
He should tell the MPs they speak out of order.
2. The leader of the house
He is supposed to lead the MPs -- especially MPs of the ruling party.
3. PM
He is the boss of the ruling party's MPs and he was in the parliament too.
4. Opp MPs
They should tell the PAP MPs they speak out of order.
5. Almost all the MPs
They should be reponsible for their error.
I can tell you, why some ministers and MPs slept or closed their eyes during parliamentary debate. its a one way traffic. 2 opposition MPs against the PAPs? so during question time, they wayang a bit by asking the backbenchers to ask ministers questions.
it's true..kind of like a resting on their laurels situation. Nothing interesting since only 2 opposition MPs, of which one is looking almost senile.

the horror is this, after they are gone either thru retirement, lose at elections, or ill health or demise, who among the opposition parties will take their place? I see none, that is the scary part. does it mean no more opposition MPs in parliament in future?
chiam see tong trusts no one that he has to ask his wife to stand in for him at potong pasir. really sad...after all these years, he had never successfully groomed a successor. I believe once people see the slow and senile way he talks and looks, he will lose votes. What to do? Everyone grows old and looks senile one day.

Not much exicting debates is true. But closing their eyes doesn't mean sleeping.Maybe they are concentrating to listen the speech.

Hi Guys,
Need your help at sgforums Malaysia Corner "Malaysian come into S'pore forum & lecture Singaporeans ".
Many thanks.
hi sgcommoner,
we expect singaporean to be strong and able to take lecture with open mind, coming here and asking us to gang up is not a Singaporean style ya. Learn to fight alone, just like me, i fought so much battles here and still standing strong, walking tall and keep walking...
Johnnie Walker, black label...@$200 per bottle at Angel's Pubs, keep walking in.
a professional way of saying "sleeping" is "reflecting".."deep thinking (or slumbering)"...or "meditations (like St Augustine's classic?)"...errors and omissions are also professionally insured...
Sg system is grossly elitist that breeds arrogance...ends up with ZZZzzzzzz.(luckily no saliva dripping)...and perceiving the rest as commoners while campaigning a nice, friendly society..oh...humility...
they dun realli debate....they pass down instructions with added creative style to make it like an intellectual opinion....and then get the instruction or motion passed through....
shall we create a Political Star Award (like those of local artistes)?..please call 1800---*All calls are subjected to GST"...whose political showmanship deserves the Political Star Award 2010?
They should be taking awards for:
- Sleeping on the job while on public tv
- Sleeping during a speech
- Taking cover when there are any escaped terrorist and train sprayed
- Taking it easy when there is a flood again
- Stealing the limelight while on MC
- Claiming credit on press even if it is none of their business when there is any awards
- Making honest mistake and getting no blame for it
Contrary their citizens should also get awards for
- being the best grumbling lots
- most complaints
- burning of MP
- best hypocratic in term of talking alots ideas but no action
- no protest against all kind of incrememt by govt
- allowing govt to make mistake, and still admit it as an honest mistake
- tolerate and endure all kind of abuses including daylight cheating by govt
Action will be taken come voting.
I like it when they ask the health minister about how he maintains his healthy hair in Parliament.
"I spend 10% of my million dollar salary at Yunnam Hair Care, what about you?"
