Which politician have quit politics to form new think-tanks ?If it is a PAP politician, the think tank can hardly provide new ideas - especially if the politician is old.
Even if the politician is middle-age - it is unlikely for the politician to be influential enough to make the think-tank into some potent force to influence the PAP and the government that it forms.

Dun blame the MP lah, people vote them one ok,...if you want to be like them, you can also put up your name in the election...+$30,000 non return fees if you get less than 25% votes.

Before any aggressive debates can take place - those supposedly 80 responders will need to give up some seats to allow debate to take place with members from the Alternative Parties.At present, the 82 members refused to respond to any issues raised by the 2 members from the Alternative Parties - instead the 82 members will laugh and dismissed any issues raised for debate by the 2 members from the minority side.
They will claim that they are deaf - as was the heading in another thread.
At the end of the day, it is not only about aggressive debate - it is about open process instead of the current process of rubber stamping any legislations to the extent of even bastardising the Constitution that guarantees the basic rights of Singaporeans.

This is stupid. It is 12.5 % of the votes (1/8). The fee is pegged to MP pay, so this one may be true in future, but not now......

oops, you got it wrong, the new election rules will be amending soon to accomodate the 25% of votes in order to qualify deposit fees return which will also, or most like to rise to $35,000. This is to deter any useless tom or dick applying for election that ultimately wasted alot of people times, effort and adminstration fees.Keep in touch ya.

You forgoted the fact of NMP (Nominated MPs) and walkover, this really shows your ignorance.
And it is not always 40% ~ 49% of opposition then can get a seat.
1: If there are equal to or more than 9 Opposition MPs, then there will be no NCMP.
2: In 2001, the average opposition votes is 25%. The time opposition MP is 2 where max of 3 NCMPs was reserved. Thus, the highest loser got it, despite he get a vote of 35%.
Thus although typically is those opposition who gets 40~49% of votes get it so long as opposition mp's number is not enough, but so long as a opposition gets > 15% (And that shows angel's ignorance of returning deposit must be obtained 25% of the votes) of the votes will be considered.

Also, it is not 20 non ruling elite members (seats), it is 18. 9 from NCMP and NMP. They got difference one hoh. NCMP must get support from people / residents (With votes) and NMP is getting support from the relevant areas (The Certain area can nominate a person for President to consider, such as the Arts area can nominate one person from the Arts world who can contribute be a NMP. With such, they do not get votes support but support from organizations --- look, it is organization and not company. There is difference again.)
