Amazing for such a "zwei-siao" statement to be made that "rioting is free" - and considering that this is coming from one who claims that Dr Chee Soon Juan is a hooligan ?
Hogs certainly can learn to fly.

Anyone that see MM Lee or the Prime Minister would know they are from PAP. Similarly for Dr. Chee and Low TK to be from SDP and WP. And if people start to surround them and talk about politics or elections to them, are the police going to arrest them?
It is amazing that the PAP government wants to implement something that is impossible to implement. If these people are not considered as "symbols", then would wearing any T shirt with their portraits illegal?
Goh Meng Seng
They should lock up MM LKY, and all the other PAP iconic figures.
Will the cooling off day be a public holiday, or will it be an ordinary working day without any political campaigning ?
If it is a public holiday - any attempt to open government grounds for free public entry should be seen as a poltical move to enhance the stakes for the incumbent ruling party.
Considering that in Election 1996 - when several senior PAP Ministers had blatantly contravened the Election Laws - ‘the Attorney General was very disingenuous to circumvent the words the Law, by claiming that the PAP incumbents cannot be said to be near the Polling Station, as they were INSIDE the station, and hence they did not infringe the Law. (*1)
Can the PAP be trusted to keep to the right side of the Law during the 'cooling off' period - or is this another one of their gerrymeandering tricks of the kiasu Singapore politician ?
Woei!!!, taken yr medicines already??? dun worry about the cooling day ya, got cooling or no cooling, still PAP wins lah
going to rain
so cooling outside now~~
Is Singapore the only country in the world to have 'cooling day'?
Omg...this is such a bad move...it only makes them look worse...Hmmm but then again...the opposition doesn't seem very credible or level headed...Looks like we'll have to choose the lesser of 2 evils

Who in the opposition can be worse than Lee Kuan Yew?

No. Italy, Indonesia, Mexico etc also got. But among it, only Mexico is not democratically advanced than us.

LKY may be a 'tyrant'...but he is the 'tyrant' that made Singapore what it is today...you can dun like him but you cannot ignore his contributions
After all without him we might be stuck as a 3rd world country or 'eaten' up by some greedy powerful countries already...

Yes, base on his past contributions to allow him to step all over us.
Does your employer base on your past good contributions to appraise you and ignore your present poor performance?

Because you are the only hog here. If Chee Soon Juan is not a hooligan then hawkers won't be complaining.

The purpose of this law is to provide for a longer 'cooling period' to take the heat from ruling party. Perhap they will impose a much longer period in future to be effective.
1 day not enough, they can always try 1 year.

If you are able to do the things he achieved then you come and talk big...I'll let you step all over me
If not..show some gratitude for the life you have now...at least you're not in africa eating tree bark, or in Indonesian where human life is worth even less than the clothes off your back

Since you have such a mentality , it is just a waste of time and effort.
Others will comment. Wait for it.

Let's hope the opposition UNITE and win all the 9 single seats and at least a GRC to show the ruling elite that SGreans have enough of the unanswered questions of the rising cost of living, public transport not on time, nt enough capacity, smaller HDB homes, rising ministers salaries!
Now not 9 liao, the next GE got 12 SMC.

Ya, that what I feel the purpose of the 'cooling period' is. They will vary the no of days and indirectly it means a ban on opposition propangada. They will allow only couple of days for oppositions rally than black out period until election. I strongly believe this will happen.

Unfortunately, it seems that the resident 'zwei-siao-Hog' is more of a hooligan than Dr Chee Soon Juan - as the 'zwei-siao-Hog' is the only infamously born again expert as a ‘mother fucker’ in this Speaker's Corner.
Do we need to be surprised to see that only the resident 'zwei-siao-Hog' will advocate that 'rioting is free' ?

since you have so much respect for the old lee, then i have to ask you this:
what is the point in what he built singapore into today while his son policies have a reverse effect to the Very foundation of even the most basic rules that is slowly but steadily eroding the local people, their jobs when the past rules were there to safeguard them? rollback when he was PM, was asking for $$ from your parents at dire times like this just to make ends meet heard of?..the answer is mostly based on that time is NO. but now it seems apperent to happen more and more, morever even the marginal rich are considered "middle class",while the middle class are either unchanged for the upper rungs while the lower rungs are mostly highy proability of regelated to "poor" even with a combined earning of 2k+ a month.
i used to support them in the past but things changed a lot,my NTC-2 cert can almost become practically worthless, add the struggle on diploma and getting job and retrenched inbetween, basically, i had very little help there, except for the subsidy on the diploma, the rest i basically have to struggle on my own, even after getting it, jobs were few and scarce inbetween, thats what is like to follow the advice of "upgrade yoruself" but to find nothing, yes basically nothing at the end of he struggle, only to find another long dark gloomy tunnel again, with FTs on your rear waiting to grab any job when your're in a shakey position to lose your job. does some people who live similar lives like mine deserve this?
given what i went thru in the past and forsee in the future, it gives me little choice to vote for the ruling party but all the more a stronger and more resolute view to vote foe the opposition- the reason is simple- to stop this madness before it get worst.

If more can think like you, Singapore will be a better place to live.

If u had read my 1st reply to this thread...you would have seen that I'm not in favor of all policies passed down by the PAP
In fact I only replied to Dondontan in such a manner because he dragged LKY into the picture...and yes I have a healthy respect for our MM
Please know what you guys are actually against (the policies), and don't just attack people (LKY)just because you don't like them.
LYK is old, he can't manage everything like he did in the past.
Also, I find it hard to believe that people cannot find work, like what you said. This is the survival of the fittest. If I can find good paying jobs with just an "O" level cert, I don't see why you can't. It all boils down to attitude, if you are gonna rely on the government to do everything for you then you better migrate. In fact Singapore desperately needs locals to fill up jobs, granted most of them are unwanted jobs which are eventually given to foreigners, it's just a matter of whether you are willing to do it or not. No matter where you go, which country you belong to, this will always hold true. It's the survival of the fittest.
I'd probably get flamed for this, so to prove my points, I've read in the Strait Times about this guy from India who came over to Singapore and worked as a labourer/cleaner, and now he's a rich boss of a company. And he said that Singapore is a place where you can get rich by hard work alone. If he'd stayed in his country he'll still be as broke as before
