1. In today's Straits times, Wong Kan Seng argues that Singapore needs 60,000 newbabies. Currently there are only 37000 local born babies.
In 2006, Lee Hsien Loong said "About 35,500 babies were born in 2004, short of the 50,000 needed annually to maintain the 4.2 million population.
Why the sudden 25% jump for the need of 50,000 to 60,000 babies ? This is because PAP has been "replacing" population over the recent years. The population is now 5 Million instead of 4.2 Million. This is to say, the more "replacement" there is, the more babies we need. It is a moving goal post that will never be met.
2.If true aim of the immigration was to replace the shortage of babies to ensure sufficient labour for the economy, we should be replacing the shortage of babies caused by "stop at 2 policy" 20years ago. Why should we be using the current shortage of babies?By importing disproportionate workforce in the age group for 20s-40s, it would distort the aging population in 20 years time, creating a greater need for importing young people in the next generation.
Obviously, the true objective was not merely to replace population but to increase GDP by population expansion. Now they are just fudging figures and making up reasons to justify their economic strategy.
You want to address population?? Then its simple
Step [1] Give free education to children who were born before their parents turn 30.
Step [2] Give more maternal and paternal leave
Step [3] Got at least 2 kids... no reservist requirement
Step [4] Foreigner can only become PR if they sign over their offspring to Singapore (no singles allowed)
