...............GROWING OLD IN SINGAPORE IS A HARSH REALITY.I KNOW WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN AS SPORE HAS NEITHER NATURAL RESOURCES AND NOT ENOUGH USEFUL PEOPLE.
Originally posted by Fairyfairy86:time has changed. do you expect the monks and nuns not to take modern transports but like olden days, travel by walking or always need someone to be with them to pay the fares on their behalf ? can the monks and nuns in singapore plant their own vegetables or go round asking for alms which is illegal in singapore.
if they are not allowed to receive money from the devotees, i think every monks will need a personal assistant to handle their daily needs.even if the monks and nuns do not step out of the temples, they still need to pay for the electrical bills and what about their daily necessities (clothings, hair cut, shoes etc.) or do you expect them to use candles. you have not grasped what buddha is trying to preach or you will not end up saying amen.
one day the young ladies in singapore will become old, that is the time when we will seriously thinking of what is life all about. thus, do not judge us when we are still young.
Then, dun practice here, how can u get enlighted practicing in a metropolitan capitalism place, go to a poor place and you really know what is suffering, that was what their founder did, go to the sick and poor, he forgo his richness and prince status just to get enlighted, now where are all these practises??? no wonder no one get enlighted nowaday. Question, are you pure?
In taiwan, the nunnery i attended had a adminstration dept dealing with contribution, and the chief nun alway emphasis that we except only contribution to build temple, not in cash, if some one invite us to do some prayers, he/she must provide transport, foods and place. The nuns there simply dun see money, cash or any coin. For 2 months, i dun see a single cash...hv u get that experience before, never see money for 2 months, wow! that was one of the best experiences i have had...u really come to appreciate what is life.
THATS BECAUSE U LIVE INA TRANQUIL VAST PLACE IN TAIWAN WITH SUCH A WIDE OPEN SPACE.life is better there until u end up owing money and thugs in taiwan are very illogical as those in spore!
u could build a windmill.....use it to power your internet in the nunnery.....either you have the technology to build things in the countryside from melting metal, building power supplies, solar panel lighting, using what there is there or its back to stone age 4 u living in bamboo forest with snakes..it is very hard work and extremely hot.....however u would be rewarded if u have those knowledge with hard work.
i havent seem money too at supermarkets,,,just my credit card.
u build temples in taiwan???how do u do it without getting the engineer to sign the paperwork??dont engineers need to sign paperwerk before u start to build the temple??is interesting!!and is it earthquake proof or not??all im see is some angel70 flattened from temple rubble. ....and what transport is that??horse drawn carts or wagons??
In burma, the dictatorship relies on military force. In Singapore, the government relies on manipulating the law as per need.
in burma, the juntas instill both fear and rebellous on a burmese child, in singapore, PAP instill a fatherly like figure on a Singaporean child starting from PAP childcare centres. No wonder they are expanding.
in burma the people are tofu and depend on monks to do the fighting and dying!
in singapore the people are also tofu and depend on 4D and casinos to the the fighting and dying.
one depends on monks another depends on money to do the real fight.
thjey fight to survive and when they have no more monks or money...then what??no more fight???game over???become toilet attendant during old age??

luckily the monks and nuns do not think like you or all the singaporeans will deprive the chance of learning buddhism. monks are here to preach. it is not easy to be monks in singapore.
my friends told me some of the famous high monks in singapore ever thought of going to a more peaceful, less capitalism place to practice but their old masters told them off, telling them that one of the responsiblities of the monks is to preach to as many sentiment beings as possible and not hide somewhere and self practice.
one of the famous monks my friend mentioned is master kwang sheng whom rony tan apologised to. he heeded his old master's advise and stayed in singapore to become the abbot of the biggest temple in singapore in order to preach to singaporeans.

Preaching is good, act on what you preach is better, a monk can go on preaching and preaching but never practice what he preached is a serious karma.
People become monk because they cannot concentrate on buddhism in an outside world, if a person can understand the doctrine of buddha teaching, practice it well, spread to others thru his humble and serenity lifestyle, he dun hv to be a monk. Monk or sangha are actually person who seek buddhism in a different way and i respect that, because the Dharma said that we must respect the sangha, but on the contrary, buddha did not said you hv to be a monk inorder to get enlighted, in actual fact, you got to go down to the outside world, learn the way of laymen and human living, from there you get more experiences than a monk, because a monk hiding or preaching in a temple, dunno much about life. And Buddhism is nothing but the doctorine of Life. It is a matter of whether u want to live a blissful or unblissful life.

This thread doesnt have to lead to another religious conflict .Who said got no famous monk ? The most famous monk I know is Jet Li in the movie Shao Lin Temple
The Monk. A TV series of American drama

Wa....
How come today you talk like this.
Behold, Nun Angel.!!
The wheel of life is forever spining, going on and on repeating itself in different world and condition, if one does not realise the meaning of life, one shall not be able to get away from this repeating life...on and on it goes until one realized the true meaning of life, thereyby entered Nirvana, then one shall stop all these repeating and be in the relam of one true self.
When I first learned Buddhism as a study and not as a religion which buddhism is not, the chief nun asked me 3 questions, Who are you, Where you come from and where are you going to...everyday, she would ask me this same 3 questions...and i kept telling her the same answer, I am Angel, I come from Taichong and after finished this course, i am going to Singapore. By the end of 2 weeks, I find myself going round and round..and finally after those courses and meditation, i realized that for the whole 21 years of my life, actually, i dun really know who i am..and i start to realize we are actually living in an illusion, life is not long, it come and go, we all born crying and go with many peoples crying. Isn't it sad. From here, i learned to see thing more clearly, knowing that life is actually suffering, we must learn to forgive and forget, the smartest thing in life is not about gaining something, it is about the ability to hold back on our urge, our greed, our hatre, our frustration and our envism. For that, may all be in peace and harmony.
By the end of 2 weeks, I answered the chief nun. I am nobody, I come from no where and I am going no where. For that, she gave me an A+ for my graduation.

I have the realisation that all great Buddhist masters are great masters of talking nonsense. No matter what they say or do, the clamanity of human existence will never end unless human existence ends.

I agreed fully!!! Yes! you are indeed awaken to it.
Why no one promote the art
of BRuce Lee chinese ku fu in sg?
we rather promote Harry Lee kung fu in politics than concentrating on a dead man ku ku fu
