Last Saturday, the Straits Times published a highly debatable commentary written by two NUS professors Tu Yong and Yu Shi Ming on HDB flats still being affordable in Singapore:
The aim of the article is to show that HDB flats are still affordable in Singapore by making comparisons to housing prices in Hong Kong, London and Sydney.
One of TR columnists Ng Kok Lim had written an article rebutting the points mentioned in it to reach the conclusion that there is no empirical evidence to suggest that public housing is affordable in Singapore by any standard. (read article here)
Though Straits Times included a footnote at the bottom of the article that both authors are from the Department of Real Estate, National University of Singapore, it omitted the fact that Professor Yu Shi Ming sits on the board of HDB as well. (source: HDB Infoweb)
Surely readers ought to know this important fact and be allowed to assess the merits of the article independently on their own after taking Professor Yu’s relationship with HDB into consideration?
Is this another honest mistake or a deliberate omission on the part of the Straits Times? Either way, it does not reflect well on the credibility and professionalism of the paper.
Minister for Communications, Information and Arts Rear-Admiral Lui Tuck Yew said not too long ago that the mainstream media remains a “trusted” source of news in Singapore.
We leave it to readers to judge for themselves if they can really trust the Singapore media.

hello, u still read statetimes ar??? tho the delivery old ah pek use to ride his motorcycle and throw that papers on our lawn, nobody pick it up expect our dogs, and we still patronise it because of 3 reasons, 1st, we dun want that ah pek to loose his job, 2nd, our dogs get to exercise, 3rd, because we got share in SPH. Other than that, it is all nonsense.
What is the use of comparing with other countries that have different land structure, different earning powers, different way of governing, etc etc,...just take a comparison of the HDB 1980's prices against an average salary and today price against today salary and you can see alot alot alot alot of differences...what to do, Singaporeans are greedy, and that is plus for the govt to exploit them.
seriously, nobody gives a fuck about how ur dogs pick the papers up from your lawn just because you have shares in sph lol. Your second paragraph sounds far more relevant. Tk u very much :)
Care or dun care i dun give a care too, just like statetimes, who can so much about a few poor professors looking for some quick bucks from SPH to satisfy their mistresses. And i dun even get a dime.
early in the morning, somebody start to give old aunties story!
This is another daily routine display of idiocy and irrelevance of the Taiwanese 'hum' to exercise its ‘Labia Majora’ and ‘Labia Minora’ - simply to attract attention to itself as the resident 'Attention Seeking Whore'.

The problem is when news are read by those who are less informed - they will take it as the truth, and that the local gripes are all baseless and irrelevant, which makes the PAP Government even more correct and never wrong.
This is dishonest propaganda at its worst when the citizens are cheated from the Truth.

What right has a Taiwanese 'hum' to question Singapore Citizens ability to handle the 'truth' ?
If you must insist in displaying your stooooopidity and idiocy - you will do yourself a big favor by doing it somewhere else.
Why do you bother to put on another daily routine shameless display of idiocy and irrelevance as a Taiwanese 'hum' to exercise its ‘Labia Majora’ and ‘Labia Minora’ - simply to attract attention to yourself as the resident 'Attention Seeking Whore'. ?

You can be depended for your stupendous ability to be ignorant and stupid.
What are you ?
Can you be a 'HE' ? No.
Maybe a 'SHE' ? Unlikely,
Surely not even an 'IT' ?
But most certainly a combination of all - to be a true 'SHIT'.

They have no interest for singaporeans and HDB is becoming affordable for the rich only, NOT the poor and common people.
