Look at the way they differentiate - increased school fees, hospital charges for PRs, foreign worker levies etc.
Does it benefit citizens?

WIth more revenue, we as citizens also can benefit from it ya, our dollars stay strong, our economy more vibrant and our places are more nicer, safety and peaceful. Who would want a poor govt?The poorer they are, the more worst we will have to pay, so let them be.

Singapore adopts a dirty float (managed float), ie MAS keeps the Singapore dollar in an undervalued narrow trading band.

Tho we may had dig into the reserve during the downturn, but we are debt free, that is the most important, you won't want a govt in debt ya.
