The poorly thought-out policy had negatively affected the interests of Singaporeans more then positve effects for Singapore's future - what do you expect the ruling regime to be doing - besides assuring and defending the foreign policy issue ?
Will SPH or CNA honestly do the feedback on behalf of Singaporeans - or will they dishonestly obstruct the expression of the real feelings of Singaporeans and promote the false hurrah in support of the foreign policy of this PAP Government ?
Can SPH or CNA be allowed to report the truth or has it not been a fact for the last 53 years that the print and broadcast media has been muzzled and reined in to be the mouth piece of the PAP Government ?

Gentlemen,
Because the fruit of the foreign policy will not surface till the next or the after next generation, peoples here tends to retaliate against such policy, they deem it as an intrusion, and that is understandable.
If we look at our demograhic closely, we are diminishing, peoples are getting older (govt implemented old age reemployment policy), our birhrate is terrible (govt provide incentives to encourage birth), people are not getting marry (govt provide SDU and other social networks for couple to get together). Having all these initiatives, sad to say that things still dun work out, because all these cannot be enforced, you can put a person in jail because he/she dun want to marry or give birth or work. So, the situation call for foreign input, and when we open our door to foreigner becoming PR and citizenships here, we better prepare to welcom them, otherwise no one will be coming. However having said that, at a certain point, govt have to close back the door in it foreign policy, otherwise, there will be an overflow.
The Govt is not naive to locals comments and critics on foreign issue, they knew it, they knew that such unpopular decision will hurt their votes in election, they knew that they will be heavily criticised and they knew that their popularitiy will decrease, but for the sake of future singapore, they bite this bullet so as to continue to guide this country to glory for the future, because, if the future have no Singaporeans (decendents of current foreigners who become citizens of Singapore), singapore is history, because human resources is one of our top strength.
When we talk about politics or patriotic, we cannot be looking at the present, that is selfish politics, we must provide that condition and right environment for our decendents to move on and enjoy the fruit of what we did today, likewise, what we are enjoying today is because of what most old peoples or those that had gone had done for us, and to these peoples, they never for once think about self interest or, for what is in for me kind of attitude, they think big, beyong the present and that is why we are enjoying the fruits of what they seeded. And we as Singaporeans, should not be so selfish to let our decendents in the near future to go on with a diminishing population that ultimate cannot function and led to other countries occupation. We must built a future for our decendent of Singapore, with that in mind, this is what i call true patriotism.
